The only downside was that Kiss was huge.

Always seemed like it had to be the most fun year of the 1980s. I was born a couple years before, but man it would have been a blast. I was always envious of people who "lived through the 80s", even if most of are dead (or deadbeats) now.

Look at the movies released that year... Ghostbusters, Terminator, Police Academy, Karate Kid, Footloose, Revenge of the Nerds, This Is Spinal Tap, etc.

Cosby Show, Miami Vice, Night Court, Who's The Boss, Jeopardy.

Van Halen, Thriller, Boys of Summer, Purple Rain, Born in the U.S.A., Like A Virgin.

It's crazy that only five albums topped the charts in 1984 (four if you didn't count Huey Lewis and the News at #1 for just a week).

Rick Allen still had two arms, and Vince Neil wasn't a killer yet. What a year!

I'd say about halfway through '82 up until the end of '92 was the golden era of music for me. 1984 had OOTC, Stay Hungry, Love at First Sting, Tooth and Nail, etc., as well as plenty of good pop/new wave music, so I'd say it's at least one of the greatest years of the 80's.

The 80s weren't all that great. Instead of ludes and free love, we got the War on Drugs and AIDS. Fuck Reagan.

Add to that the Cold War in full swing and the post- Harrisburg/ Chornobyl nuclear panic. Not that great a decade but at least the economy was better than in the 70s.

That said, those were the best decades for movies and music. 1984 was a great year for that.
