It's actually a pretty good article, and there's absolutely nothing surprising in there. Kid Rock and Ted Nugent are the same guy. Deep down, I think they both mean well, but they're also both too egotistical to realize downlevel what the effects are of acting a certain way or saying certain things, and they both want to prioritize decisions that are going to be a hit with their target demographic.

I think it goes back to that line from the head of the NAACP. "you're not racist, you're just dumb".

I thought so too. I didn't get the impression he's racist; he just seemed like a dumb drunk guy. I did get the impression that he knows his audience is racist so he knows exactly which of those buttons to push. He doesn't outright say that blacks exploit the system, but he starts that conversation, knowing exactly how it's going to read. It's kind of a bummer to think about, this Faustian bargain he made with MAGAts, to do this redneck cartoon character in perpetuity, just to avoid getting hurled into cultural irrelevance. I'd drink all day too.

He was never going to have much of a musical legacy but he could rightfully claim he helped bring hip-hop to country music, which is where pop country is right now. All that's overshadowed by this clown act he's got to do now, which is what he's going to be remembered for more than anything.

Pretty much my take.

He's so much like Trump, it's ridiculous. They've both gone so far into one direction to stay "on brand," who knows what's real or not anymore. He had his chance to shape whatever he wanted this story to be. It's not his first Rolling Stone feature. He knows the deal and can't complain now - not that I expect him too. The writer did an excellent job with this.

By coincidence, I was drunk-binging YouTube videos last night (hence my posts about Poison and Kiss). A few Kid Rock videos came up on the feed, so I went with it. Enjoyed hearing "All Summer Long" and "Born Free" for the first time in years. "Picture" reminded me of this smart, funny single mom I used to work with who loved that song and sang it all the time.

Kid Rock's legacy could be about those people. Instead, he'd rather be remembered as a comments section come to life.

Age, money, and always having Fox News on in the background changes people.
