OG STAIND drummer dies at 53, but... looks like he was 70. What was his deal...?

Post by MetalSludgeCEO »

I saw this on BM and thought it was a typo saying he was 53... wow... the guy looks like he's in his 60's...

The article says something about Liver failure... which leads one to believe, he drank more alcohol than his body was willing to accept.

53, and he looks like he was pushing 70... damn... drinking is dumb, especially at that level!

Yeah unless it was a genetic thing or something that guy drank himself to death. Aaron’s a drunk/chainsmoking mess and still kind of looks his age. This guy must have been much worse off.

Great drummer though, with a unique sound. Saw him many times with Staind in the late 90s/early 00s.

Curious as to if the drinking came before he left Staind, or after. Doesn't seem like he's been up to much since a quick stint in Soil, but I can't figure out if he just didn't get along with Aaron's political views anymore, or if he was already bad off at that point, and couldn't hang regardless.

He must have been a hell of a booze bag. Jeff Hanneman, James Kotak, Janie Lane style. Your body just says fuck it when you get deep into middle age. Mine is and I don't even drink.

Don't forget Warrel Dane. He looked dreadful in his final months.

could be the guy just aged badly. Look at the bassist for Lamb of God. He looks ancient.

He looks ancient for early 50s.

Alcohol at any level is dumb.

Alcoholics die at 25,35,53. Some hold on forever, some die young. Dude saw the world and accomplished things 99% of musicians don’t. Addiction doesn’t discriminate. Not sure what his “deal” is but his legacy isn’t playing dive bars to crickets. He deserves props for his accomplishments and having something to show in music. Sad situation

I'd prob look like that too if I had to deal with Aaron on the daily.

The guitarist Mushok has been in some excellent bands, first with Newstead and then Saint Assonia. Not sure how he deals w/ Aaron either, but apparently very well.

Nothing is wrong with drinking in moderation. If u cant handle it and know when to say when then u shouldn’t do it. With that being said, if u overdrink till the point u have liver failure it will definitely age u fast
