Let's hear it for Saraya!
We never talk about this band anymore. Some killer songs on the debut. Fire to Burn is a great deep cut.

Love the first album. Almost perfect hard rock; Sandi had the looks (I've always preferred brunettes) and a fabulous voice. I couldn't get into ...Blackbird so much, then I read ages ago that she was a god-botherer and went into church music instead. A sad loss for rock if it's true.

Wasn’t she married to Brian Wheat of Tesla once? “Love Has Taken Its Toll” is a solid enough tune that managed to crack the Billboard Hot 100 shortly after it came out. The whole debut album has some other great songs as well like “Gypsy Child” and “Back to the Bullet”. Good stuff.

I was kinda the opposite. I did like the first album, but thought it was fairly generic, but it was fun. Blackbird I absolutely loved. It was heavier, and more original. Didn't have any real radio friendly songs, and it was fairly obvious that this would probably be the end of the band.GoodJudge wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 3:50 am Love the first album. Still listen to it every so often.
Was the first concert my friends and I took a road trip to. One guy had just got a car, and 6 of us piled in and drove 2 hours, and had a blast.

Sandi Saraya (now Sandra "Sandi" Saraya) was briefly married to Brian Wheat of Tesla in the early 90s, but their marriage ended due to touring pressures.[7] She then married actor Carter Kelly in 1990 and lives in Princeton, New Jersey with her 5 children Peneth, Epith, Mowgly, Scotch, and Drax Kelly.

Surely she's not famous enough to give her kids names like that?Black Stuff wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 4:36 am ....with her 5 children Peneth, Epith, Mowgly, Scotch, and Drax

If you've got an hour to kill, I've just found and listened to this relatively recent interview (?2019) w/Sandi

Looks like I was right about the god stuff, and she's one of too many talents who got burned out by record industry politics. Worth a listen if you're a fan of her music.

I love both albums and revisit them fairly often. They were a solid live band too. Tony Rey has some tasty riffs and solos on both of them.

Re: Let's hear it for Saraya!
Both albums are completely forgettable......... debut feels like a studio product, Blackbird sounds better and feels like an actual band effort, but no real stand out songs (on either album).
A cassingle of "Love Has Taken It's Toll" with "Hitchin' A Ride" as the "b side", is all the Saraya you need......
And..... she (then and now), looks like she has a perpetual 5 o'clock shadow........
