Any good R&R clubs in NYC anymore? If so, where?

Post by Thrasherfan17 »

I walked around the Village last night and it sure is a lot different than it was 25 years ago. Any good R&R clubs that have anything happening on a Thursday night? Thanks in advance.

Arlene’s Grocery on Stanton Street on the Lower East Side is about as Rock n’ Roll as you’re going to get in Manhattan anymore.

You also might do ok at Beauty Bar for drinks - & they usually have good dj on Thursdays.

Other than that, you’re better off in Brooklyn.

Thanks. Next time I'll stay there. Where are the good spots there?

If you’re looking for bars, check out Rocka Rolla & Duff’s just across the bridge in Williamsburg, for sure.

There are also all kinds of smaller bars in Bushwick & Ridgewood where you can check out bands if you want to, but I can’t remember specifics.

Another vote for Duff’s. I haven’t been in a couple years, but every time I go in that place the music is great and the floor is sticky and likely crawling with STD viral shedding. Just how a rock bar should be.

Another vote for Duff's. Walked over the bridge from Double Down in LES when I was there (that is a crazy place). It was free Jukebox night the night we went, great selection. If they still have the prize wheel (or whatever they call it) do that, I won a beer and my wife won a free t-shirt and a pack of rolling papers lol, we still talk about that place!

There are a ton a cool rock & roll bars in NYC. You just gotta know where to look.

Three of Cups, the Continental, CBGB’s, Manitoba’s, Don Hills.

L’amour in Brooklyn gets lots of 80’s bands still.

If you want to go to CBGBs, better start looking for a time machine, it's been closed for 18 years.

Are any of those still going? Manitoba's closed a couple of years back. L'Amour shut in 2004. CBGB has been gone since 2006.

How about Lamour's East or Lamour's Far East? Maybe RAW in Bayside? ;)

Lucky 13 in Gowanus is a pure Metal bar, if you're looking for that.

Manitoba's is no more as others have said, likely because they gave me too many free drinks throughout the years. I like Bowery Electric, but I've only gone for the purpose of seeing a show purposefully (not just randomly showing up) and it's always fun.
