Original SEX PISTOLS singer John Lydon (a.k.a. Johnny Rotten) has been estranged from the rest of the band after unsuccessfully attempting to block the use of SEX PISTOLS songs in "Pistol", a Hulu miniseries based on Jones's 2016 memoir "Lonely Boy" that dramatized the band's story.

Lydon didn't want Pistols songs being used in the Pistols TV series.
But during one of their reunions he signed a new agreement where decision power went from a veto power to a majority vote power.
The other three guys voted yes on the songs being used in the TV series.
For some reason Lydon doesn't want to recognize the contract he signed.
Apart from that I think Lydon has always hated Matlock because he thinks he is boring or something.
Ignoring the fact the guy co-wrote all the songs....

These dudes are old but still seem able to play shows.

I wish they could keep things cordial with Lydon so they could do some shows once in awhile if they felt like it.

I have ZERO interest in Sex Pistols with some unknown nobody singing no matter how good he may sound.

Without Lydon it ain't the Sex Pistols even though they are billing it as such.

I'm surprised Lydon hasn't sued them for that (advertising it as Sex Pistols, when it's just 3/4 of it).

I saw PiL on their last tour and it was quite good.

I'd imagine a re-formed Pistols would go over well but it doesn't seem to be in the cards. Lydon says he lost a boatload of money on lawyers fees over the tv show debacle that he lost in court.

I don't foresee them making amends with each other anytime soon.

Let's be realistic here. If it was John Lydon on vocals and Steve Jones on guitar they could get away with calling it Sex Pistols. Nobody really cares about the bassist and drummer.

Just like Axl and Slash could be GnR with a bunch of scabs.

Or Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, they're the Rolling Stones.

Add Steven Tyler and Joe Perry to the list, they could call it Aerosmith.

Same with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin.

If you've got the vocalist and guitarist you can get away with calling it whatever the band name used to be even if all the original guys aren't there.

In the majority of bands the bassist and drummer are the least important when it comes to using a band name.

Depends on the drummer. If Bonzo and Peart were still alive, I'd have to disagree here.

For all those asking, Frank Carter was the lead vox on the First two Gallows albums: Lock Up The Wolves, and Grey Britain.

Both killer albums. I’ve seen him up close and personal and he might be 5’ 6” but he was a fireball.
