Pretty much bad all around. I went in to the show knowing it would likely be a letdown (I had seen them in 85, 86, and 87 and they got progressively worse). They were (and still are) one of my all-time favorites, so I was PISSED that Tom was apparently smitten with his girlfriend and it dragged the entire band down. The crowd really let them have it. Not that they were ever known for tasty leads, but the guy Tom brought in (Oliver Amberg) might just be the worst lead guitarist ever in a known metal band.

Right on! We probably were at a lot of the same Y&T shows.

The thing I remember about Bon Jovi that night was that Slippery When Wet was still about 6 months away from being released. I don't think they played any songs from it but in between songs, Jon mentioned that they had a new album coming out and then said something to the effect of "Once the next album is out, we're never opening for anyone, ever again." That memory always stuck with me.

First Concert: Ringo Starr
Last Concert: .38 Special
Worst Concert: Probably Fishbone opening for STP & RHCP in '01. Wasn't bad but prob the most disinterested I've been for an opener.
Loudest Concert: Metallica, Allstate Arena 2000. Standing on the side of the stage, basically an in-the-round setup.
Best Concert: Maybe that Metallica show. Or KISS July '96. Idk. I could make a 10-way tie out of this question.
Seen the Most: Poison and Crue tied I think. Metallica, KISS, Bob Seger, Blackberry Smoke and U2 all close seconds.
Most Surprising: Jamey Johnson
Happy I Got To See: Bob Seger
Wish I Could Have Seen: Tom Petty
Next Concert: Not sure yet.

First Concert: Motley/Ratt, SATD tour, May 1984 Orpheum Theatre, Boston
Last Concert: Cheap Trick, August 2024, MGM Boston
Worst Concert: I never went to a show I didn’t want to go to. Enjoyed them all.
Loudest Concert: Ratt opening for Motley. My 13 year old self was NOT ready for that. I had no idea what to expect. As an adult, I can remember having no heating for a couple
of days after a Heaven’s Edge show at Axis in Boston
Best Concert: Motley/Ratt SATD May 1984. I was totally blown away. I officially became a full on metalhead after that show.
Seen the Most: Motley 7x
Most Surprising: Warrant in 1991 at the Channel, Boston and Lord Tracy at the Channel (not on same bill). 2 of the best times I ever had at a show
Happy I Got To See: Savatage on the Streets tour, at the Channel, Boston. It was the last time Cris played in Boston and I was a huge fan. Was a cold weeknight in the winter IIRC and I almost didn’t get off my ass to go. So glad I did. Got Cris’s autograph on my Streets cassette too
Wish I Could Have Seen: somehow I’ve never seen AC/DC
Next Concert: possibly Marvelous 3 in November or Kings X in September
"Nothing's perfect except God and a California sunset."

cowpins wrote: Sun Aug 25, 2024 6:12 am First Concert: Quiet Riot/Whitesnake/Armored Saint. I was a very sheltered country boy and all the long hairs and weed smokers scared the shit out of me.
Last Concert: Rolling Stones - They have no right to still be that good. I just sat there with my hands in my lap like I was at church or something
Worst Concert: Stone Breed. They were opening for some has been and halfway through their set I walked. So soul killing.
Loudest Concert: Metallica - Three hour aural assault. I felt like my ears had been BBC gang raped with no limits. And yeah, I loved it.
Best Concert: Soul Asylum - Some rib fest kinda thing in Chicago. Dave was on fire. The dude was channeling some serious angst that night (late afternoon)
Seen the Most: LA Guns. Those fuckers are like herpes. They just keep coming back.
Most Surprising: Counting Crows. The musicianship in that band is next fucking level. Every bit as good as the Black Crows.
Happy I Got To See: Sinatra and for much different reasons Niel Dimond
Wish I Could Have Seen: Elvis
Next Concert: Honestly, I may never go to a show again. Such a pain in the ass and stupidly expensive. I've done my time and my house is awesome. I want to stay here and watch shit on the big screen with all the comforts of home. Get off my lawn you fucking little twats.

First Concert: Yngwie Malmsteen (about age 15 - looking into the club from the outside - Marching Out tour)
Last Concert: Jon Anderson & The Band Geeks (was superb)
Worst Concert: Smashing Pumpkins on the Mellon Collie tour (dreadful)
Loudest Concert: Smashing Pumpkins (same show, was actually painful, even from the middle/back)
Best Concert: Too many to say (Flecktones, Yes, Cory Wong, John Zorn/Marc Ribot & The Dreamers, Santa Sabina, Adrian Belew, Blue Murder, Steve Lukather, New Grass Revival & Pat Metheny Group really stand out)
Seen the Most: Yes (and offshoots)
Most Surprising: Cory Wong (my God, that was a tremendous show)
Happy I Got To See: Steve Cropper, Steely Dan, Earthworks, Van Halen, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth solo '94, Victor Wooten at his house, La Barranca, Gustavo Cerati)

Man, are they good live. Saw them in 1996 as well, also great. Haven't seen the current lineup, but yeah, see them if you can!
Dave Lombardo played with Dead Cross too, before joining Mr. Bungle. Strange that Mr. Bungle have gone back at their old demos and are almost an old school trash metal band nowdays.

In 2000 I saw Oasis headline a festival (I just checked the date and saw the Foos were 3rd on the bill!). There was a thunderstorm going on in the distance behind the stage that was far more interesting to watch and listen to than that band.

First Concert: DRI

Last Concert: Stray Cats

Worst Concert: Guns N' Roses ( UYI-era after FNM & Metallica blew them off stage )

Loudest Concert: Ramones. SNFU was in a 100 person bar and pretty loud too.

Best Concert: OG lineup of FIshbone ( seen them twice ). Followed by KRS-One. KRS had the Rocksteady Crew with him and played in a bar for almost 4 hours.

Seen the Most: Bad Religion ( 30-ish times ).

Most Surprising: Avenged Sevenfold. I saw them on 'City Of Evil' in a club right before they blew up. Holy shit they were good.

Happy I Got To See: A fully reunited Public Enemy, right before Terminator X left indefinitely.

Wish I Could Have Seen: Joe Strummer. I was going, but backed out at the last minute and have regretted it ever since. I later found out Mick Jones was there and sat in on a few songs. FUCK.

Next Concert: Bad Religion. The Surfrajettes. I forgot which is playing first.

Yes! That set list is stellar. Triptykon is FINALLY going to start working on a new album - it's been 10 years since the last one.

First Concert: The Kinks/Red Rider 81/82?
Last Concert: Midge Ure
Worst Concert: Blink 182
Loudest Concert: Ministry/Ramones/Motorhead, one of them. Honorable mention to Iggy Pop, the tour he did with Josh Homme/QOTSA in his band, it was obscene. Even with ear protection it made your stomach sick.
Best Concert: Rush/Vapor Tails/Hartford/The return of The Professor/Rush are back!
Seen the Most: Probably Dropkick Murphy's, my bud & I have went to at least 1 show every St Paddy's Day Boston run since they started, close to 30 years. I've also seen them a bunch of other times outside of that.
Most Surprising: The Eagles/Steely Dan. Reason being, I hadn't listened to either band for a while before the show but damn, I knew every word to every song & had the best time.
Happy I Got To See: Duh, KISS in 96, naturally.
