NOTE TO SELF: ... NEVER move to Florida regardless of the offer, option, or opportunity! #wtf
Of course every time a storm like this is headed to the coast, we're told how bad it will be.
Well... is this more of the same?
Or... is this as they're calling it, "A once in a century (100 year) storm" or will it die down and be a lot of wind and branches down?
I can't imagine living on any of those coasts, and 2-3 or 5x a year, be told, "In 3 days, your entire life might be wiped out, go buy Plywood and board up your windows!"
No thank you... I will risk the Earthquakes here, and deal with the heat between July & September!

I lived in the Tampa Bay Area for 10 yrs between 1970-80. I don’t recall a single gulf coast hurricane in that decade. I only recall one on the Atlantic side that was very mild.
I’d not move back after retirement. We love the sea and sand but it would need to be outside the hurricane belt.

Cannibal Corpse is suddenly touring as a 4-piece as Erik Rutan had to fly "home" to deal with what's left of his place...
I can't deal with hurricanes or earthquakes, I'd rather risk red wine shortages here in Frantz!

our hot neighbor chick moved there 4 weeks ago.
She moved there a couple years ago, but then came back a few months later.
I wouldn't be surprised if she moved back again!!

Each of the five years I lived in South Florida I had to secure the house 6 times preparing for a hurricane. Only took any real damage from the first one (the week I moved there, Welcome to Florida).
Hurricanes sucked, but not as much as the red necks, overt racism, and smothering humidity. All reasons why I got out of there decades ago and made my home in Hawaii.

The more the rest of the country has shitty weather -- snow, rain, tornadoes, hurricanes, HUMIDITY -- the more I love living in Vegas.
If you can handle/enjoy the dry heat in the summertime, the rest of the year is perfect. Everybody has a pool or knows somebody who does.
No snow to shovel, no ice to scrape off windows, no need to start your car 20 minutes before work to let it warm up, no umbrellas or jackets needed.
Nothing happens here aside from sunny days, and as the saying goes, you don't have to shovel the heat.

Why would anyone live there??
How do you replace your roof (or more) every year???
The humidity, the bugs, the gators, the Governor!
What a fucking shithole!

I was a Florida resident, January - April 1985....
Moved there after High School, as soon as the Winter weather hit I bailed right after Xmas & NYE.
Flew 1-way to Florida, with 1 suitcase... and stayed for 3-4 months.
Over the years, Tuff have toured in, or played in Florida, upwards of a dozen or more times over the years.
While I do like the warmer Tropical type weather, the humidity and bugs are a bit over the top, no thanks.

Every place has something negative in differing doses. Hurricanes, drought, wildfires, earthquakes, blizzards, volcanoes, bugs, dust, crime, boredom, corruption, assholes.....

Why would anyone live there?? I live in S Cocoa Beach....laid back tropical lifestyle with both a beach and intercoastal waterway steps away. I live where people vacation.
How do you replace your roof (or more) every year??? The only time myself, or any member of my family have had to replace a roof or anything major storm related was Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Everything else has been a minor inconvenience (tree limbs, fence down, etc..) that you just deal with every few years. Same can be said for any coastal state...LA, GA, SC, TX. You can also say the same for winter storms, tornado's, etc...
The humidity, the bugs, the gators, the Governor! Beach breeze, bug spray, I'm around them all the time...don't bother them and they don't bother you....don't watch the news.
What a fucking shithole!

If you forget the political bullshit, Florida is a beautiful state.
Every single place I've visited made me want to move there instantly.
Actually was very close to moving to St. Pete a few years back. What changed my mind? That bridge you have to take to get there from the mainland. Kept thinking this would not be fun evacuating for a hurricane. And sadly, my worst fears have been confirmed.
And of course, there's Disney, or Universal, whatever your preference might be. And Key West! Never been there, but damn, what an amazing city.
So overall, Florida is a beautiful state with beautiful beaches and cool people. But living there now is out of the question.
Considering the horrific insurance rates, horrible weather, DeSantis,
etc., there's simply no reason to do anything but visit for a few days.

California is a more beautiful state, with more beautiful beaches, Disneyland, Universal, mountains, desert, anything you like is just a couple of hours away. It's expensive for sure, and worth every penny! Although, our weather seems extreme to us in the last 20 years or so, it's not really.TravisBicklesMohawk wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 4:20 am If you forget the political bullshit, Florida is a beautiful state.

However, I'm quite fond you your state. My trip to New Orleans in 2021was the best! I can't wait to get back there!

I'm all set with Florida, California, and the mid west. I'll take a New England Blizzard any day of the week over, Hurricanes, Tornados, EARTHQUAKES, Floods, mud slides, wild fires, etc.

Yes, I know. Went to Sacramento a couple of years ago and instantly fell in love with the entire state.Metal Sludge wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 5:57 pmCalifornia is a more beautiful state, with more beautiful beaches, Disneyland, Universal, mountains, desert, anything you like is just a couple of hours away. Haven't had a chance to see much else, but Cali isn't going anywhere, so hell yes, I would love to live there someday.
