It's The Right Time - Van Halen/Mitch Malloy

Haven't seen this posted yet. This sounds legit, and I can't imagine Mitch would upload it and claim it's real if it wasn't.
Something tells me Alex's "we had some other singers" bit stung more than just Sammy.
I'm not really feeling it. Musically, it's better than anything on VHIII, but that's not saying much.

It was never the right time for Mitch Malloy.

He added his vocals after that fact, I believe. Mitch Malloy is like Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite talking about his football days in high school. His milked this for so many years it's sad.
His vocals are bland and unmemorable. They're fine but he sounds like any guy in a bar band. Nothing that stands out and there's no personality. There's a reason he wasn't in Van Halen.
Gary Cherone took a stab at the song too and it's better but still not spectacular. Gary's version was called "That's Why I Love You."

Gary also recorded this song with Van Halen as "That's Why I Love Ya", which was left off VHIII https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zG_Llpssa4s
Eddie gave Malloy the instrumental DAT tape back when he was in VH to write to, but he never did. He dug the tape up and wrote/recorded the vocals sometime in the past decade.
FWIW Malloy wrote a better song than Gary, but he also had 20 years to work on it.

It's not new. It's about 10 years old

This is everything bad about every Van Halen song that sucks rolled up into one, except Eddie isn't singing.

I'm surprised to hear this! I think he has a great voice. Very melodic and powerful. The problem is he just doesn't have the songs. His first album was his best by far. I actually liked his 2nd James Taylor sounding record (Ceilings & Walls) but that was so out there, different, I think he got lost after that. Him showing up in Great White came out of nowhere.LitaStrauss wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 1:56 pm His vocals are bland and unmemorable. They're fine but he sounds like any guy in a bar band. I'm surprised he never worked with Desmond Child or some other top writers again. I think he's got the goods to have at least one big hit single.

I think he sounds pretty generic as well. To your point though, I think it was more of a timing thing, had he come along 10 years earlier, probably would have caught on with someone.DonJuanDeMarco wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 7:23 amI'm surprised to hear this! Maybe Frontiers is hiring?

This has been on YouTube for quite a few years and it's only getting some traction again because he posted it in light of Alex's book, but I actually prefer it to Gary's version. He's a good singer for that type of music so I'm not sure why he wasn't on any pop oriented rock albums earlier than his debut in 92'.
