Interesting. Holt looks like a fun and reasonably smart guy so could be a worthy read. Except for Mustaine, Ellefson and Scott Ian I don't recall a lot of memoirs from thrash musicians

I'm personally surprised Lars hasn't come out with one yet. If anyone would have the interesting type of life that they would be eager to share with the world, I'd think it'd be Lars.

Thats my two cents as well. I have read lots of them. Pretty much the same. You can for sure smell the bull shit in lots of it. Think the only one I did read and really liked, and believed it was Noddy Holder. The lea singer of slade. That was a doozy. There was one other. A guy that was around Robin Crosby the guitar player for ratt, then Robin was close to the end of his life. I believed that one as well. That was a eye opener. Kinda sad really.

Gary has always been one of the better interviews about the past, he tends to have an extremely good memory.

Like all books it depends how candid he gets. He's seen and done some crazy shit. How much he'll actually talk about remains to be read. He's a pretty no bullshit kinda guy. I'll support the cause for sure.

I read through it, waiting for the fun stuff, then got to the end and there was a note on the very last page saying "I agreed w my family to leave all the fun stuff out". What a waste. Even the non-sex+drugs tales like his Sarajevo show in the middle of the Bosnian war were not much more than humdrum: "we went there, we played, it was a bit tense".

What I liked about Bruce's book was that he made it kind of plain he was sick of Iron Maiden by the Powerslave album.
After that he speaks with passion about fencing, being a pilot, his solo career, but Maiden, not so much.

I’m a terrible Sludger because I hadn’t heard an Iron Maiden song until two weeks ago when I listened to Number of the Beast. But having read 20+ years of daily Blabbermouth headlines, he strikes me as a very weird dude who has at least a dozen outside ventures that he cares about more than his main gig. Guessing Maiden fans felt like AC/DC fans picking up Brian’s books and they’re about pretty much everything other than AC/DC.

So glad I borrowed that Bruce Bruce book instead of buying that piece of shit...boring boring book.

I'll buy Gary's book, I'mma nutswinger, and I look forward to reading about the early days, the H-team (Rick's excesses), how he developed his sound, the Capitol years, the partying, the tour with Venom, the Duke years, Kerry King making him dumbing down his solos for Relentless (lol, I know this part won't be included!), etc...

Some are better than others.

They were fun at first, not so much when pretty much 90% of the entire industry is putting them out.

Lita Ford and Ace Frehley the worst, Stewart Copeland might be the best, it's a lot like Bruce's book where it's about a lot of his other interests but he is also much smarter / better writer, assuming he wrote it but I heard his voice in my head which means I think he did. Lita on the other band probably almost entirely ghostwritten and a friend in the publishing industry, rock star autobiography arm (this is a thing, they now lobby people to write books) said his involvement was minimal.

Joe Perry's was really good, Tyler's was unreadable. Which means I think someone actually let him write it himself and then couldn't figure out how to edit it.

I think fringe genres and people who aren't massive rock stars with a lifetime of assured success with a bit more daily struggle may have better stories to tell.

Jack Russell of Great White's looks interesting. I like a lot of drug tales since I somehow avoided all that.

Rex's book is a must-have for Pantera fans since it's the only bio by a band member. Phil said he completed one and then decided not to put it out. Rex was still on the outs with Vinnie so he trashes him at multiple points in the book.

Al's was good. Candid and raw. Nice when an artist is actually involved with their bio's when so many aren't .
