Bands With Almost No Video Footage
Been listening to a lot of Atlanta Rhythm Section recently. Went on YouTube to check out some live footage and was surprised to find almost none from their prime in the 70s and early 80s - a single live TV appearance, one or two music videos, and a couple shitty camcorder videos.
Made me laugh because I recently looked up some band my Dad used to talk about seeing all the time in the early 70s - some unsigned band out of San Diego called Blitz Brothers. Turned out there's loads of footage of them, even some a proshot concert from local cable TV. There's damn near more footage of an unsigned local band than a band with multiple top-10 hits!
What are some other bands that are severely lacking in video footage?
Atlanta Rhythm Section - Alien. Its a shame there's no good footage of the guitarist laying down that outro solo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9MW-6PY44M

Re: Bands With Almost No Video Footage
The Stooges and early solo Ozzy have an amazingly limited amount of footage available.
...annnnnnnnd PRIME ERA Bee-Gees. They only did one tour while they were on top of the world because they spent '77 and '78 doing that shitty Sergeant Pepper's movie while they were having the biggest chart success since the Beatles. There is ample footage from '75 and earlier, but the only GIANT tour they did was '79. There is a TV special with a few songs, but aside from that, no other footage exists (as far as I can tell) of this goddam giant STADIUM run.
Probably Robert Stigwood's biggest fuckup was keeping them out of the spotlight doing that fucking awful movie.

Re: Bands With Almost No Video Footage
Good call.
Not bands but specific tours:
Iron Maiden - Somewhere on Tour 1986. Nothing proshot except for what's in the video for Stranger and maybe 3 bootlegs. Which is 2 more than from the World Slavery Tour but there we have 2 official concert videos.
Judas Priest- British Steel and Point of Entry tours. Don't think I have seen anything live from 80-81.
Kiss Dynasty tour 1979. The Great Return of Kiss and there is one proshot show, one bootleg and that's it?

Fastway with Dave King
Waysted with Ronnie Kayfield
The Joe Perry Project with Ralph Morman
Scorpions with Michael Schenker
I would also say Ozzy with Randy Rhoads. There's SOME, but considering they did multiple tours, it's hard to believe how little footage exists

If they hadn't done that TV performance in New York, which IIRC Rudy said Ozzy strongly protested against doing, there would be zero proshot footage of RR with Ozzy. None.Demon Kogure wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 10:52 am I would also say Ozzy with Randy Rhoads. There's SOME, but considering they did multiple tours, it's hard to believe how little footage exists
Which is insane.

Nobody had any idea that Randy was going to pull drunken Ozzy outta the gutter. They didn't know.

Good call on Nick Drake.
Fairport Convention with Sandy Denny (of Battle of Evermore fame). This sixty second clip is all that exists. What a voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvdr_kilrw4

Full show from '82. Looks like the Cock Me Tonite jazz hands were a natural affectation.

It exists, and I've seen it and have some downloaded. I think it's Glenn who has it taken down.

Re: Bands With Almost No Video Footage
Was it in the Don Costa thread people were talking about there not being any footage from that era of Ozzy due to him shaving his head?

Yeah, but for those two years and albums Ozzy was HUGE and getting tons of press...makes no sense.Bono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 11:29 am Nobody had any idea that Randy was going to pull drunken Ozzy outta the gutter. They didn't know.
Plus all of his metal contemporaries/peers had proshot stuff around then, like there is plenty of Priest, Maiden, Motley...seemed like every hard rock act that came even close to crossing over got an MTV concert at the time.

You seen this that popped up a few years back? https://youtu.be/HIGuTCY--xcEinstein Lawless wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 6:51 am Waters era Pink Floyd… particularly WYWH/ Animals era.
There are several "Wall" full shows. I saw one that they filmed for a home release a while back, but I can't find it now. That one was good because you had closeups and cameras behind the wall and shit.

That's my point... he wasn't their peer until after the little guy was dead. Randy died about a year after BoO was released in the US.Sleek wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 1:01 pmYeah, but for those two years and albums Ozzy was HUGE and getting tons of press...makes no sense.Bono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 11:29 am Nobody had any idea that Randy was going to pull drunken Ozzy outta the gutter. Re: Bands With Almost No Video Footage
Being that this is Dimebag day, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Pantera. Yeah, there's the three home videos they did, and there's some footage from Moscow, Donnington, and one the Ozzfest shows, but to my knowledge, there's not a single proshot, full concert out there from their original run, just a few songs here and there.
They have to be the biggest band out there that never had a full show recorded (for video), right?

I mean, it's technically the 90s, but there is the Swallow This Live video that was shelved, and then later shown on VH-1.
