Sammy didn’t necessarily need them. I think that is why he is hated so badly by a certain percentage of the fan base.

Sammy certainly acts like he needed them. He's been living off his VH years one way or another for most of the last 30 years.

Why wouldn't he be, seeing that it was his band/catalog too?

That would not have been successful. He got the idea from Jimmy Page who had talked about doing it for for years.

He was told to STFU on the first tour, he barely did any introductions between the songs at all. Wolf picked the setlist. He wasn’t allowed to do any interviews whatsoever for that first tour outside of the ten minute press conference they all did in 2007. He was totally on the leash.

That totally makes sense now. I was pleasantly surprised at his intense focus on professionally singing, but also a little let down that it wasn’t really Diamond Dave anymore.

I needed a little, “Don’t be sticking your tongue out at me, sweetheart, unless you intend to uuuuuuse it!” Or a, “I’m gonna fuck your girlfriend tonight, asshole!”

I saw them on that tour at Madison Square Garden, & Dave said both of those things.
