it was the right album at the right time...to understand it you would have had to live in that time, much like hendrix who literally sounded like an alien compared to what else was out there at the time...trying to judge it by today's standards is difficult as that was 40 years ago and the world was just different then...d.m.

I was alive then and never really got into it even though he had a great voice. What’s weird is I didn’t know a single person who had the album including my older brother and all his friends. Everyone knew the radio stuff and that’s about it. I’m really not sure who bought all those copies, but I guess someone did. Seemed like most people basically liked “paradise” because of the play-by-play sex thing more than anything.

There’s a whole world of music outside of shitty hair metal, guys. Sounds like some of you have lead sheltered lives.

My 1977 kid years agrees with this. It’s the exact opposite of what I thought when I first saw Led Zeppelin’s IV cover. “What kind of fucking country accordion bullshit is this gonna be?!”Brainy Lane wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 7:18 pmThat cover promises METAL!!!Sleek wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 2:14 pmRilly?DangerZone wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 12:52 am the cover ties with Molly hatchet for false advertising
It is about escaping hell on a motorcyle.
The album cover is a pretty literal depiction of the lyrics of the song.
It does not deliver.

Ha. The LZ IV cover belonged on LZ III, which was their worst-selling album because half of it was country accordion bullshit.Neil Diamond Dave wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 7:47 amMy 1977 kid years agrees with this. To be fair, this is why I immediately hated Kiss once I heard them.

Presence, I didn't realize, but I get it. It's pretty lousy. Coda doesn't count. This... ALL DAY!
Some of the BEST ever concerts I saw in my life were Prince, Neil Diamond, Huey Lewis & The News and Garth Brooks (even though I think he's a F#@king blow-hard asshat).
Of course at 19 & 20, I was obsessed with Heavy Metal, but even by my mid 20's, I had grown tired of it, and often thought, "These guys suck!", while 4-5 years earlier I thought they hung the moon!
I would rather listen to the Soundtrack from Grease or Saturday Night Fever, or a New Wave/Punk mix from the 80's over anything released in the last 35 years.
Listening to full albums by STYX, ELO, Supertramp, Triumph, or even Men At Work and Flock or Seaguls is more satisfying to me than listening to Ozzy or Van Halen.
I also find myself putting on Rave, House or Techno mix tracks for hours while I fill orders!
