I don't get why Bat Out Of Hell sold so much?

The one that started it all. Spreading gossip and insults since 1998.

Rilly?

It is about escaping hell on a motorcyle.

The album cover is a pretty literal depiction of the lyrics of the song.
That cover promises METAL!!!
It does not deliver.
My 1977 kid years agrees with this. It’s the exact opposite of what I thought when I first saw Led Zeppelin’s IV cover. “What kind of fucking country accordion bullshit is this gonna be?!”
Ha. The LZ IV cover belonged on LZ III, which was their worst-selling album because half of it was country accordion bullshit.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

To be fair, this is why I immediately hated Kiss once I heard them.

III sold twice as much as Presence and six times as much as Coda.
Presence, I didn't realize, but I get it. It's pretty lousy. Coda doesn't count. Cash grab.

"""""""""""""There’s a whole world of music outside of shitty hair metal""""""""""""""

This... ALL DAY!

Some of the BEST ever concerts I saw in my life were Prince, Neil Diamond, Huey Lewis & The News and Garth Brooks (even though I think he's a F#@king blow-hard asshat).

Of course at 19 & 20, I was obsessed with Heavy Metal, but even by my mid 20's, I had grown tired of it, and often thought, "These guys suck!", while 4-5 years earlier I thought they hung the moon!

I would rather listen to the Soundtrack from Grease or Saturday Night Fever, or a New Wave/Punk mix from the 80's over anything released in the last 35 years.

Listening to full albums by STYX, ELO, Supertramp, Triumph, or even Men At Work and Flock or Seaguls is more satisfying to me than listening to Ozzy or Van Halen.

I also find myself putting on Rave, House or Techno mix tracks for hours while I fill orders!
