As anyone who’s recently attended a show by Foreigner or Lynyrd Skynyrd knows, it’s become as common as a guitar solo to see a classic rock & roll outfit without any original members in the lineup. But what few may realize is that the template for that concept may have started 80 years ago today — with the death of a big-band musician.

The ‘Legacy’ Band Trend

As long as I'm learning something, I figure I'm OK - it's a decent day.

Re: The ‘Legacy’ Band Trend
Interesting. Foreigner and Skynyrd were the perfect bands for this, faceless bands with huge hits and multiple line-up changes. Journey could probably pull it off, maybe even Leppard. I have more doubts about say Bon Jovi, AC/DC or Guns where one or two members are the face of the band.
