70's music ... best shit ever?

70's music ... best shit ever?

Post by inextrem »

Point is...

Is 80's Priest or 80's Scorpions dumbed down versions of their 70's output? Or if not, dumbed down, is it a more formulaic offer?

And the answer is...

I enjoy listening "Rocka rolla" more than any 80's Priest (as good as it is), but that 70's music had peaks and valleys, lights and shadows and was way richer.

Opinions?

No.

1984 was the greatest year for music … All genres.

Have you just realized "British Steel" was 8released in the 80's?

Anyways, have you ever really listened to "Rocka Rolla"? The "Winter Suite" for example?

Most of 70s Scorpions is a hookless noodling borefest. I tried to give it a chance and only the "In Trance" song sticks out.

Priest dumbed down and became formulaic with Ram It Down. There were songs on Defenders and Turbo but mostly they kept growing and exploring different directions with every album up to that.

Maybe for the best. They tried something new with Demolition and Nostradamus and those are among their very worst albums. They can still do a solid retro metal album though.

I actually came to the same conclusion, 1984 is my favourite year too...with 1983 a very close 2nd.

As for the 70's music being the best shit ever, there's a lot of great stuff from that era... I just watched the Grateful Dead's Sunshine Daydream DVD - a live show from 1972 on some sort of milk farm; that's gotta be my favourite live show ever: tits/boobs/great tunes/no security anywhere!

Neither is the Scorpions. Granted, Lovedrive came out in 79, but it's far more representative of what came after it than what came before.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

I was never a big Priest fan.

Scorpions I am an unwavering Matthias Jabs fan. You can keep Uli

Scorpions peaked with Lovedrive. Even the filler like Can't Get Enough is decent. Too bad Animal Magnetism sucked.

Yeah. Purple, Sabbath, Rush, Priest, Scorps, Motörhead and VH too. Most of my favorites started and / or had some of their biggest classics in the 70s.

Technically Maiden, Ratt, Dokken and Saxon started in the 70s too even if they didn't make much impact in that decade.

Remove Scorps (pre Lovedrive) and Motörhead from your list. Add KISS from the list above (none of those other bands) and you have a pretty good 70’s list.
