Which type of hair band do you prefer: the Zep imitators or the AC/DC clones?
Discussing Whitesnake, Blue Murder, Badlands, etc. in the context of Led Clones made me think of the fact that there were just as many AC/DC clones (or close enough to being AC/DC-adjacent in sound) out there at the time, if not moreso: Kix were somewhat AC/DC-ish, and of course, you had the two biggest imitators of Angus and Co. in Dirty Looks and Rhino Bucket, as well as a few others I may have missed (maybe Johnny Crash?). Hell, I just realized Salty Dog may have elements of both Zep and AC/DC on their debut. Anyways, which of these two types of hair bands do you Sludgers prefer overall: the Led Clones or the AC/DC wannabes?

Zep clones. Loved the 3 good WS releases. Also BM and Badlands. KC was ok.
AC/DC clones. Only Kix had any success. Only 3 good songs total. That’s not good. The others were CMC/Spitfire types. Indy bands with no notable success.

Nah. They were pretty good through Fly on the Wall. Most their songs were at least ok. After that they subscribed to the Crue model. 1-2 decent tunes per album. Rest is filler.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 6:34 am The real AC/DC suck let alone third rate copies of it.

Whitesnake 1987 onwards , Blue Murder and Badlands sounded nothing like ZepDemonFilth2001 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 6:19 am Zep clones. Loved the 3 good WS releases. Also BM and Badlands. KC was ok.

AC/DC were only good for three albums, the rest was mostly filler. The clones never got better than the bad AC/DC albums..DemonFilth2001 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 6:19 am Zep clones. Loved the 3 good WS releases. Also BM and Badlands. KC was ok.

But the Zep clones weren't better. Whitesnake were good but only a few songs here and there sounded like Zep.
Who were the best VH clones not counting Mötley? Or Journey clones besides Bon Jovi?

This poll is hilarious. Any of the bands in the Zep category is better than any band in the AC/DC category. Yet, somehow, it’s a tight race. It’s like exitflagger was able to vote multiple times.

Because it's difficult to fit them into a category as they copied anything popular in the 80s.
Joe Elliott famously told Kerrang! That "First they ripped off Judas Priest, then Mötley Crüe and Bon Jovi and now it's us"...

Ugh... I do like a few Kix tunes...and so now it's tied at 10-10!
At least AC/DC didn't get sued constantly for ripping off musics...

Zep for sure, and I don't even really like Led Zeppelin. But I like Whitesname & Kingdom Come.
I do like AC/DC and hate almost all of their knock-offs.

The poll options did say etc. So I'm counting bands like Cinderella (first album) which smokes any of the Zep clones.DemonFilth2001 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 10:51 am This poll is hilarious. Truth be told I prefer the dirty looks cool from the wire album to any album released by a zep clone.

I prefer Zep to AC/DC but I'm the reverse for copyists. The DC clones just have more energy.
