I expect Maiden to get in soon enough. Maybe America, Thin Lizzy, and Cheap Trick as well. Not so sure about the others.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 7:18 pm Thin Lizzy

The most glaring omission for years has to be Bryan Adams: 75 million + albums sold, multiple platinum albums, seventeen Top Twenty hits in America (Including four #1s), writing and production credits on almost all his songs, and he's been touring almost non-stop, around the world, for over 40 years. He's collaborated with Tina Turner, Sting, Rod Stewart, Roger Waters, Bonnie Raitt, Barbra Streisand, and Kiss, and he's played landmark concerts like Live Aid and The Wall Live in Berlin. He's got a great and distinctive voice and he's a really solid rhythm guitarist. He's done tons of charity work and he's also a great photographer. The guy has more than paid his dues, and unlike a lot of the artists who make the cut, he's an actual rock/pop musician. Did he run over Jan Wenner's dog or something?

Re: 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees announced
I respect the argument for Bryan Adams. I can picture some Rolling Stone executive saying, "What's the hook?" But the gimmick is that he had no gimmick - and became huge anyway. His wave peaked a couple times during his career (Reckless and Robin Hood).
Looking at this new batch of nominees, one thing stands out: they're scraping the bottom of the barrel and/or returning to artists who were overlooked. There's no "first-round" sure thing we've been waiting years to nominate.
Out of those nominations, Mariah Carey is by far the most successful, influential, and enduring. I'm surprised she's not already in.
If you go back to debut albums that came out in 1999 (at least 25 years ago to qualify), you have ...
https://futurerocklegends.com/Debut/1999/
Lil Wayne
Jennifer Lopez
John Mayer
Britney Spears
I'm not sure exactly which year is the cutoff, but 2000 releases include ...
https://futurerocklegends.com/Debut/2000/
Linkin Park
Disturbed
Pink
Gorillaz
There's an argument for and against each of those, but it's a more interesting and historically relevant conversation.
If she qualifies, I'm shocked Pink wasn't a shoo-in.

Okay, I guess Britney Spears was 1998.
https://futurerocklegends.com/Debut/1998/
So was System of a Down. Have some balls and nominate them.
Like 'em or not, Coldplay deserves it.
Destiny's Child was 1997. Surprised they aren't automatically in - because, you know, all hail Beyonce.
https://futurerocklegends.com/Debut/1997/
Overall, the actual nominations just feel stale. I mean, I like Billy Idol. But if you haven't inducted him by now, it's clearly not a pressing issue.

Re: 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees announced
He's an elite level singer, guitar player, and songwriter. Fleetwood Mac would never have become megastars without him. But, his solo career was a major letdown. (Glenn Frey was kind of disappointing compared to his Eagles material, but at least he managed a few 80s hits that most people haven't completely forgotten.) I think Buckingham managed to chart a couple of times, here and there, but what a gap between his solo stuff and Fleetwood Mac.blackedout85 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 8:04 am So many snubs, but Lindsey Buckingham gets in twice! Where is Poison? Where is Motley Crue? This is bullshit!
Yeah sure, these were all successful acts and I like a lot of them but:
A.Mariah and Cyndi in particular are not rock & roll
B.Wasn’t this supposed to be for acts that made a difference? That changed the face of music? For that, Motley and Poison deserve to get in. Chubby Checker is not already in? “Do the twist” is as iconic as the Hokey Pokey! Put your right foot in, take your right foot out, do the twist, talk dirty to me and shout at the devil!

Phil Collins is even more of a snub. No one had more top 40 hits in the 80s than…. Phil Collins.CrankerBait wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 7:30 am The most glaring omission for years has to be Bryan Adams: 75 million + albums sold, multiple platinum albums, seventeen Top Twenty hits in America (Including four #1s), writing and production credits on almost all his songs, and he's been touring almost non-stop, around the world, for over 40 years. Re: 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees announced
Lot of people are clapping for Soundgarden & BCrowes getting in but I think both are just mid level at best
Soundgarden was 3rd or 4th out of the Grunge bands & never solidified as an arena act
Crowes have never been above a theatre act either & their biggest mainstream success was initial album.
Bad Company is only sure thing as far as deserving it

Neither are Madonna, the Spinners, or a Tribe Called Quest. Once you establish it's a pop music/contemporary music hall of fame, Mariah Carey qualifies.
I agree with you that Phil Collins is long overdue.

Monkees should be in there too. Sure they were assembled for a TV show but they had plenty of hits that they played on themselves after the first album where they got ghosted. Nesmith almost deserves to be in solo as well for creating the concept of MTV.

If you still weren't sure that rock is dead, this thread clinches it.

Yes, Genesis got in there 15 years ago. Like Bryan Adams deserves it, Collins should be in there as a solo artist too.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 12:10 pmYeah that’s just stupid. Yes, but Gabriel also did a lot of high profile charity/activist stuff and was one of the biggest western figures in the establishment of ‘world music’ as a thing via WOMAD, which is pretty noteworthy.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 5:55 pm Peter Gabriel got in as a solo artist and Phil easily outsold him.
He was also far more unique/creative in his solo work, but that’s subjective I guess.
