I thought the general consensus would be like FreddyFender's post: "They're pretty terrible, but fun live."

I sort of forgot that Kerry King was/is a member of the band.
Kerry King was always the worst thing about SLAYER even before everyone knew what an asshole he could be. It's everything else that is EPIC.

Post 1988-ish I kinda don't care, but everything before is genre defining, I can see why a bunch of people on a site like this wouldn't like it.

Are there girls in the crowd at either show? Non-fatties? No?
I saw them some time in the 00s and there was a fine woman sitting on her (huge) boyfriend's shoulders with her tits out. Like it was a Motley show or something.

So anyway, yes I'm a big fan, at least as far as Seasons. I lost track and interest for most of what came later. The "farewell" tour was awesome though.

Saw them live in their "prime" and, to this day, they are the worst big name band I have ever seen. W.A.S.P. blew them off the stage.
That must have been something considering how much WASP sucked live in the 80s. Poster solo and all.
Slayer's excuse is that they were probably all stoned or drunk on stage then.
Sober Slayer with Holt and Bostaph were good live and I even like their last three albums.
Not as good as South and Seasons but still.

That was kinda my point. Though to be fair, I didn't have very high expectations for W.A.S.P. and was surprised. Maybe I caught them on a really good night. I got in for free, so I didn't complain.

Literally every single review from people who saw those shows said anything other than "W.A.S.P. got killed", or similar, so I wouldn't put any stock into what he said.

If you can’t hear the groove in the middle break of “Angel of Death” you probably clap on the downbeat.

My feelings exactly! When I first heard them I thought they were so-so. They had a few songs I really liked, but the rest I didn't really get it. Then I started doing meth and all of a sudden it clicked. It made perfect sense and sounded great. You have to keep in mind how unique and original their music was at the time too. There was nothing like that around then. Sure, there was heavy fast stuff, but these guys really were trailblazers. Nobody could say that they were ripping off anybody. So that alone should be appreciated.

Even if you don't like them (which I am kind of surprised how many people here don't) at the very least you have to admit that Lombardo is a fucking monster drummer! Nobody played drums like that! It's not just his speed and endurance either. His drum parts were actually very "musical" for lack of a better word. Even if you don't like the music, just focusing on his playing is very entertaining. There is no way that you could give them an honest listen and not be blown away by what he is doing.

You mean the groove that Public Enemy sampled?

Exactly, Slayer has one groove that ever caught my ear. (the name escapes me but I'd assume its their biggest song and its just one part of that song).
Other than that, it is just monotone noise to my ears.

I like everything they put out except for two albums: Diabolus In Musica and God Hates Us All.

They were trying to fit in with the nu metal genre that was popular at the time. There are a few good tunes on both but overall they were a big step down from what came before.

Outside of those two albums they've got a solid catalogue.

Awful.

Tried but couldn't get into them. Our resident Mojo once described them as "atonal noise" and that's how I've described them ever since.

I have to admit, when i was 14 'Reign In Blood' was released. I thought it lacked the heaviness of 'Master Of Puppets & Peace Sells...But who's Buying? the production was thin and weak. I did gravitate to the satanic element. I dug their tee shirt designs during the Regan era 'satanic panic' ... Their schtick quickly went south by 1995. I never could understand why Slayer constantly released the same rehashed album continuously? And the 5-6 year gap between albums did not help. '

The 5-6 year gap between albums didn't actually happen, except in your own mind.

And who cares if Megadeth sold more albums? Do you let the taste of the public dictate what you listen to?

Never happened. Every single thrash fan knew that album was the GOAT from day one. Not as heavy as MoP and Peace Sells? Surely you jest. RiB was and still is a nonstop, unrelenting 28 minute thrash metal orgasm of raw intensity.
