Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
Best Motley ballad, am I right? I'm not a violent man, certainly not toward women (I'm woke
), but I love this little tune about Tie-Dye Smiley sloshing Vanity apart.

Absolutely love this. I don't get why some people hate it. Though I think Home Sweet Home is better.

Finally you're right about one! I'm not a big ballad person, but I liked this one more than the ones I've heard 6,339 times like "Home Sweet Home" or "Without You".Chip Z'Hoy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 11:45 am Best Motley ballad, am I right? Great tune, was the subject matter the reason it didn't get pushed or played live?

Re: Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
Hated it from day one, lame attempt at another HSH. But it was divisive already back then. Some loved it, some hated it. But I'm not a big ballad person either and HSH is the only good Mötley ballad unless Don't Go Away Mad counts. Time for Change was their worst song until I guess Brandon.. another ballad.SchenkerFan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 11:48 am Absolutely love this. I don't get why some people hate it. Nah, not an attempt to recreate HSH. Nikki was smart enough to know this wasn't ever going to have heavy rotation on MTV or radio. I kinda give them kudos for NOT trying to write another sappy HSH style ballad that everyone else was doing after the success of HSH.Love_Industry wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 12:42 pmHated it from day one, lame attempt at another HSH. Motley Crue is in my "Holy Trinity" of favorite bands, but......."You're All I Need" does nothing for me...... IMO a properly recorded "Rodeo" would have been a stronger album cut, and/or I would have included Rodeo on GGG and dropped the throwaway cover of Jailhouse Rock.......

Many forget Rockers were trying to make a difference in the late 80s. Remember Rock Against Drugs?

Pure Motley. Dark and sinister lyrics mixed with their Hollywood decadence. Pure 80’s goodness.

Re: Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
It's different than a true "power ballad," but Danger was Motley's best ballad. You're All I Need was a good song though. Not as good as Home Sweet Home, but obviously not near as overplayed either. It's much better than the ballads on Dr. Feelgood.

Re: Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
Yes, you are correct. Motley had pretty weak ballads compared to their contemporaries. But this one hits the spot.Chip Z'Hoy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 11:45 am Best Motley ballad, am I right? Re: Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
I used to play the GGG album in the car all the time, while my mom was driving me around on errands, to music lessons, etc.
Didn't think twice about the subject matter. As long as they didn't swear (see Appetite for Destruction), I figured I was okay.
Who knows what my mom was thinking. The lyrics throughout the whole album fall into "bad influence" territory. Strip clubs, murder, heroin, underage girls. No love songs on this one.

If you thought it was an attempt at another "HSM", you clearly didn't listen to it.Love_Industry wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 12:42 pmHated it from day one, lame attempt at another HSH. Re: Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
I did. In 1987. Didn't pay much attention to the lyrics until I saw the video but what I heard on the album was another piano based ballad with a big chorus and a sentimental title. Clearly going for the same sound. Or is it just the way Nikki and Tommy wrote ballads back then. Time for Change is pretty much the same song only worse, and Rodeo is close too, particularly the lyrics.Wednesday 13 Fan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 8:21 amIf you thought it was an attempt at another "HSM", you clearly didn't listen to it.Love_Industry wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 12:42 pmHated it from day one, lame attempt at another HSH. Re: Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
I think I appreciate this song because it was released before the hair metal "rules" had settled in. Otherwise, we would've gotten something closer to "Without You".
I think there's an Alice Cooper influence here, thematically at least. The solo is great, restrained and melodic.

I'm not sure they were trying to replicate the success of "Home Sweet Home", at least not in terms of its potential as a single.
but they were all out of their minds on drugs and smack during that album so what do I know...

Re: Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
That song is the reason I didn't have that album when it first came out. I put it on my Christmas list and my mom didn't get it because my uncle told her of the lyrical content. That bastard!
Re: Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
I was excited to see Motley put another ballad on an album, and I still really enjoy it. The song deserved to find a bigger audience, and probably should have in '87-'88. While the music is great, lyrically, it doesn't quite have that commercial appeal. The fact that the video was banned from MTV and the video itself does not really show the band members didn't help.
I think the single/video was also released right when the Girls tour was brought to an abrupt end due to Nikki's overdose. This would account for why the song didn't have the chance to be played live yet.
Anyone know if Motley were done touring the US at this point of the tour? Were they headed back there into 1988?
I was a huge fan during the Girls era...would have loved to have seen more from it.

Re: Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
It came out in October and they toured through December so more like mid-tour. And I doubt they would come back to the US in 1988 after around 100 GGG shows in 1987.War_in_D wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 9:10 pm

In early 88 they had an Euro tour booked with GnR and Pretty Maids opening. I had tickets but they cancelled all shows due to "snow on the roof"....

Re: Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
I was lucky and got to see Motley on there Shout at the Devil Tour. Jesus they tore shit up. That was when Vince could not only sing, but sing the entire song.
I wonder if Vince is Self Aware he really cant sing anymore, and even to lazy to try the entire song alone.
I saw the Tour at a Show called the Iowa Jam. It was them, and Ozzy, and Night Ranger, and I dont rember who else. Fun fact. The womans bathroom had a line around the block, but the guys it was no waiting. While I dont know who first had the guts, In time, the women were simply walking into the mens room to take a piss, and not a single shit was given, and as far as I know, now a single woman was hassled.

I always thought it was a sick, love song before "Sick Love Song".
Re: Motley Crue - "You're All I Need"
i believe their best ballad was "On with the show".
