A Sincere Question... for MAGA of course!! re: GENE SIMMONS (of Kiss)

Post by Chip Z'Hoy »

As indicated in the title this is a SINCERE question. Not going to try to make fun of y'all or play "Gotcha" because you're going to know what I'm getting at with the question. I'm genuinely curious here.

Over the years, going on 20 now, I've seen the most right-wing, conservative, capitalist dudes here criticize Gene Simmons for not giving a shit about anything but money.

Not trying to make this about Trump, there are enough threads we can "Nuh uh" "Yeah huh" on, but I think both sides can agree DJT's primary interest in life has been money. And he puts his name on just about everything these days.

If a Kiss fan bought a $1 bill with Gene's face on it for $14.99, the thread would be "Kiss fans are idiots," "Greedy J** milking his fans," "What kind of moron would buy a dollar bill for $15," etc. (Censored "Jew" because of the context, just trying to not cause trouble!)

But you can buy Trump dollars for $14.99 at the White House gift shop and those same people are probably saying "Very smart! America, baby! Selling a dollar for 15--genius! The art of the deal!"

You can see what I'm getting at. Even before Trump, I was like "Why are all these Republican dudes calling out Kiss for just selling shit?" Kiss has always been about selling shit! Even a new greatest hits album, which they might have nothing to do with: "CASH GRAB. MILKING THE FANS."

Probably overthinking it and the answer is super simple ("Because Kiss sucks"), but it's an area I think is sort of interesting, especially these days, this double standard.

Also, I think it's totally okay to have double standards sometimes! I'm more forgiving of David Bowie's behavior in the 70's than I am Ted Nugent's. I like Bowie's music more. (A lot more.)

Excuse me, I'm on like my 4th Coke at work today, so I'm soaring. I even forgot to ask the question.

Uh, so... Why are you so mean to Gene?

Okay, here's the better question: Do you think commerce is inherently CORRUPTIVE to art, that once money factors in, it loses something?

And if so (again, not a challenge), do you only apply this to art? Do you think it could also corrupt, say, health care? Or education?

p.s. Kiss rocks.

KISS fans are probably upset because they "grew up" with the band and automatically assume that Gene should care about his obese CC Banana-lookalike fans wasting money on "Meet & Greets" and other garbage.

They get upset when they realize spending thousands of dollars doesn't make them buddies with Gene or Paul, just that they get to stand in their vicinity for a few seconds to get a picture.

I don't think anybody "grew up" with Trumpy Bear. He was just kind of there in the 80s with nothing really connecting him to people, until he said what supporters wanted to hear in 2015.

The objects of KISS for Gene were always money and pussy.

AFA Cheeto, I blame the Apprentice. Like you said, he was kind of an over-the-top joke in the 80s and 90s. The Apprentice gave him mass appeal.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.
