Re: Brent Hinds and Mastodon part ways
That's a pretty huge deal. I almost thought it would just be those four guys their entire career until someone died, similar to ZZ Top or King's X.
Brent has always had slightly different sensibilities to the rest of the band, I'm hoping this is just similar to Exodus parting with Zetro (again), and it's not due to Brent relapsing.

I remember reading an interview where he said that he did not like touring, playing the same songs every night.
He also slagged some of the metal bands they would tour with. Gave off the impression that he is not really into metal music anymore.
He said he would totally be okay going back to framing houses and doing construction if he had to.

That is sorta funny, where nailing wood at 7am is preferable than playing music that's too heavy for your current sensibilities.

Yeah, he got them in some hot water by saying he hated opening for Disturbed, which he referred to as "Gay ass shit", and Brann had to go into damage control to cover his ass, and Jamey Jasta took the podcast down where he said it.Lobo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 1:05 pm I remember reading an interview where he said that he did not like touring, playing the same songs every night.

And as you stated, he said he didn't want to be waving the flag for Heavy Metal, and didn't like being considered like Judas Priest.
Keep in mind though, this is the same guy that was in a coma for a week after doing drugs, so it's altogether possible he might have a bit of drain brammage.

Nope the coma was from hitting his head on the cement after being sucker punched by some ghetto animal friend of the bass player of SOAD.

If he is going to go back to a normal job, it won't be long before he's back.
It's normal to get tired of your current situation, and you think the grass is greener on the other side. It isn't necessarily greener, it's just a change which you might need. But even that will get bothersome after awhile.

One of the most boring bands I've ever seen live. Every song sounds the same.

Re: Brent Hinds and Mastodon part ways
You're correct, I'm not sure I ever knew that part of the story. As I heard it, he was partying pretty hard, and yeah, hit his head and woke up in the hospital a week or two later. However, I thought it was just he was high, I wasn't aware that someone hit him.HottKarl777 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 7:25 pmAnthrax442 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 1:20 pm

Re: Brent Hinds and Mastodon part ways
The guys in the band have had to cover for Hinds when he'd talk shit about other bands.
His departure seems to coincide with his recent post on the final Black Sabbath/Ozzy show, a show Mastodon is scheduled to play. I think the band just simply has had enough of his shit-talking:

Re: Brent Hinds and Mastodon part ways
Holy Shit. Yeah, that might be their highest profile gig all year, and they've openly talked about how Covid almost killed the band because they couldn't pay bills when they weren't touring.
Hopefully Brent will be happy playing clubs in the Southeast.

Re: Brent Hinds and Mastodon part ways
I completely forgot about that(Covid almost financially ruining the band). Honestly I don’t know much about them, but I have somehow accumulated a decent amount of their albums and I occasionally put them on as background music when I do stuff around the house. Some of their stuff has kind of a weird psychedelic groove that is easy to chill out to while doing random stuff.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 8:34 am Holy Shit. It did kind of surprise me that their finances were that dire…..I get it, the music industry is almost impossible to make money in, but they seemed to have a pretty high profile compared to other bands of similar style.
On a side note, a long time ago I saw a YouTube vid of Brent doing random stuff including hanging out with his dad on a golf course, and he seemed like a cool chill guy

I don't think any of them are "bad" guys, I think Brent just clearly has different sensibilities than the rest of the band, and it's been like that for a while.metalslayer wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 10:52 amI completely forgot about that(Covid almost financially ruining the band). I woulda liked to see David Draiman's reaction when he read this or someone told him about it

Re: Brent Hinds and Mastodon part ways
I love that the YouTube guy Ben Eller took his place. (or at least filled in) Of all the guitar geeks on YouTube, he seems like the perfect fit and high on the charts of dudes that would also be hanging here.

HE'S THE REPLACEMENT? Huh. I like him, and dude has chops for days, but he's not who I pictured to fill that role.

There's vid of the show they just did with TOOL online. At least the first song of the set.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 2:21 pmHE'S THE REPLACEMENT? Huh. I like him, and dude has chops for days, but he's not who I pictured to fill that role.
