Yup, this or Full Bug...

I wouldn't change anything on those albums, though, even Big Bad Bill has its charm.
One Foot Out the Door and Full Bug were the ones I thought of before deciding on Loss of Control, but listened to all three, and Loss of Control was definitely the loser of the three.

Based on responses, seems like a LOT of people think that. So, of course Mr. Bungle decided to cover that one song.

Loss of Control is ahead of its time. It's 1981 and Alex is doing a high speed double bass way before any speed metal or thrash band is doing it (Motorhead and Priest were slower). Maybe some hardcore punk was this quick at the time, which Van Halen were poking fun at or influenced by it. Here is the isolated drum track:

The song is chaotic and at first I didn't like it but I think it's great. I see why Mr Bungle covered it. When I heard Punk Rock Classic by the Chilli Peppers, it reminded me of Loss of Control:

I don't think it's their worst but it definitely struck me years later that it was the first step toward the terrible Hagar-era songs.

I'd go with either a joke song ("Happy Trails" maybe) or an Eddie guitar goof ("Intruder" maybe).

I love “I’ll wait” & “intruder”
I meant Cathedral, not Intruder. Although any of the "Hay guize, look wut I can do" guitar stuff tries my patience.

The answer is most of their covers. Choose one.

For originals, there is no such thing as a "worst Van Halen song." There are just some Van Halen songs you may not like as much as you like the others.

After watching the Mr. Bungle cover of Loss of Control (which was absurdly good) I can honestly say that anyone that thinks Loss of Control sucks has shit for brains. And this isn't my opinion, man. It's fact.

Absurdly good is correct. Never my favorite VH song but this version kills. And it's like 80-81 EVH and DLR if you only listen to the music. Scott Ian totally nails Eddie's early 80s sound and playing.

I lost my virginity to I'll Wait at band camp. It was a gang bang. No ladies present. So that song will always hold a special place in my heart despite Ronald McDonald being involved with helping Roth with the melody.

In a Simple Rhyme too. Both songs (and Fools) were played live as early as 1974, IIRC.

And there's NO bad Van Halen Roth era song. As much as I dislike 1984, it achieves what it was trying to achieve and that works for me.

I agree on both counts. I want to know more about Karl getting his cherry popped in band camp. Was this a Catholic band camp or just your regular teenage sex gang bang band camp and you had to much to drink and got passed around like a doobie to everyone. Whatever it was I must hear more.

Oh hell fucking no. The guitar solo is Ed in full God Mode. Dweezil cites it as his fave ever EVH solo. It sounds like Holdsworth if he took up smoking freebase.

Never cared much for Pretty Woman, but that's as far as I'll go. Loss of Control kicks ass and Top Jimmy has one of Ed's best solos and he plays a Ripley on it.

Yeah, the solo is amazing, but the whispering "push" and "shove" underneath the solo almost ruin it. And the rest of the song is terrible.

The crazy thing is that VH had that song written as early as 1977 (the first known live performance). Unreal.
