Poison - Hollyweird

Post by DangerZone »

Seems like I remember several folks on here saying this was a good album.

I’d never heard it.
Pulled it up on YouTube… WTF.. terrible

Maybe you were supposed to listen to Crack A Smile instead.

This!

Hollyweird was universally panned, even on this board.

They were wise to stop making new music after dropping this hot turd.

Sounds like it was produced by an 8th grader in someone's garage.

I don’t think it’s THAT bad. But I never thought Poison was THAT good. There are a few decent Poison songs on there.

The power to the people album was better, minus the live cuts

Bring me down, Strange and Hate every bone are fun songs.

Hollyweird is dog shit

Shooting Star. Pretty much only good/great song on that record.

Shooting Star is pretty good.

Crack a Smile is fucking horrible. Never should be released - there's some RHCP influence/funk and a lot of harmonica. Criminal.

Gtrjay beat me to it, but the studio tracks on Power The People were promising. Hollyweird, meanwhile, is like they’re trying to cosplay themselves and failing miserably. If memory serves, CC’s version of “Home” is the only thing worth listening to - and once is enough.

Can the guy that does the Kiss remixes tweak this one?

I actually ran it through a free mastering site and it sounded much better. Not great but better after limiting and compression.

You would think Poison and their producer would know that though!!!

Like….if we heard hit songs like Fallen Angel and Talk Dirty with this super raw production, would it sound just as bad? Is there a decent album in there somewhere, especially if you add in the PTTP songs?

Regardless of the songwriting, how did anyone think the production was acceptable? It frankly sounds like a demo tape.

Was so excited for it to be released after nearly a decade since "native tongue". Had pretty high hopes, even me as a poison diehard listened once to it and realized it was bad. The production on it is awful I thought as well.

I remember popping the cd in my car and thinking someone had fucked with my settings, or an amp was malfunctioning. I think 4-5 songs in, it wound up on the center median of the 170 freeway in No Ho.

Shooting Star is extremely generic. That says something if that's the best thing on there.

I like it overall, though the production is rough. Shooting Star, Devil Woman, and Wasteland are very good to my ears though I didn’t like the abrupt ending to Wasteland. Squeezebox is a satisfactory cover, but I wish they wouldn’t have used it for the single. The song Hollyweird felt like an unfinished demo. To me it’s an enjoyable enough album that I’d give 3/5 stars to.

I mean you’re the same guy who told decibel geek guys that Pearcy solo albums sounds like they were recorded in your cinnamon ring! I played that clip for family over dinner!
