Yacht Rock
Besides hair metal, yacht rock is second best.
Tell me there is nothing better than playing some yacht rock and enjoying vino on your back yard deck?
It’s almost that time of season for this type of musical fun

Same. I love yacht rock, even if Bernie T did make a good point about the term being unnecessarily overused by the masses right now: Toto, Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald and MM-era Doobies, Little River Band, Pablo Cruise, Dr. Hook, Bread, etc. Whatever you prefer to call this kind of music, soft rock or otherwise, it's still damn good!

Who doesn't love Yacht Rock?
Our local classic rock station played it all day on April Fools day.
The funny thing is, who even noticed? It's a classic rock station.

Re: Yacht Rock
If you love Yacht Rock, I suggest that you see Yacht Rock Revue when they come to your town. Fantastic musicians. Originally from Atlanta and I stated seeing them in 2009 every time I would work in Atlanta. Started in a tiny bar called the basement. They now play the Wiltern when I see them in LA. Saw them at HOB in Anaheim and it was pretty crowded. Don't miss them.

Lol I've watched that Yacht Rock documentary on Max like 5 times now. The Doobie Brothers were my favorite concert last summer. Funny how much I used to hate it growing up.

Great song but I don’t think that’s Yacht Rock. That’s like Journey AOR stuff.Rocker4Real wrote: ↑Sun Apr 06, 2025 4:38 pm Suddenly I'm in the mood to blast "Into The Night" by Benny Mardones.
My “go to” Yacht Rock is Baby Come Back by Player.

I wouldn't play that on the yacht either. Generic late-70s heartbreak song.DonJuanDeMarco wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 3:47 pmGreat song but I don’t think that’s Yacht Rock. There is nothing worse than Christopher Cross or Michael McDonald. IMO just dull bland soft barely "rock" music.
I'm surprised it is getting so much love here.
Re: Yacht Rock
Show of hands… who else had to Google “yacht rock”?
Re: Yacht Rock
Love me some yacht rock, but it's not a deep enough genre to listen to for long periods.
I did find an internet station that plays light 70's and 80's classic rock that plays most of the yacht rock, but also a lot of other similar kinda tunes. Have had it on all day for years while i work.

Michael McDonald is flat out annoying. Guy sounds like he sings with marbles in his mouth. Most of the yachters are fine... He's not, nor are the Doobies.

Listen to it all the time
Re: Yacht Rock
I think if you are of a certain age, which most everyone that posts on this board is, all those soft rock/classic rock/disco songs of the 70's were drilled into you, like em or not!
Re: Yacht Rock
That's a perfect summary.
There was a 30 year period of my life where I wouldn't have listened to any of it. Love it now.

Re: Yacht Rock
There are plenty of music videos where a band is playing first for only a couple of people in the audience. Then there are more and more and little by little everybody gets grazy and in the end there is a huge party going on where people are dancing and having a good time.
That is exactly what happened a dozen years ago when I was at the Kiss Kruise.
The band called Yacht Rock Revue (or something similar) started at the pool deck about 9 PM and while I was in the jacuzzi (upper deck) I listened with my left year and saw that there were like 8 people only there. Ordered another Bud + tequila (Cabo Wabo) and relaxed in the jacuzzi for awhile. The music and the performance sounded better and better and I took a look (maybe 10 minutes after the show started) at the stage and now there were like 50 people there. If I remember right their next song was What A Fool Believes (Doobie Brothers) and I was thinking myself "Well they play and perform surprisingly good" and decided to leave the jacuzzi and enter the audience.
In the next 15 minutes the whole deck was full of people (hundreds of them) and everybody were going hysteric having fun time partying.
One of the best shows I have ever witnessed.

I like a lot of yacht rock, but more the stuff that mines Steely Dan and has some cool guitar solos and whatnot. The very very smooth end of it is not as interesting to me. I like Toto. Don't much like Walter Egan. Somewhere in the middle is Pablo Cruise and Starbuck.

Re: Yacht Rock
It's hair metal but with 70s jazzy r&b soft rock.
Instead of Warrant and Motley Crue it's Toto and Doobie Brothers.
