But he wasn't driving.
He died alone in a Woodland Hills Best Western, or something like that with a big bottle of vodka. There was nothing anyone could do about that.
It's incredibly sad
Most likely someone that had been drinking with him before he died wrote a note that read " I am Jani Lane " and put it in his pocket.
You can't be serious. There is no conspiracy here. Anyone who he might have been with him (and there's no evidence of that), wouldn't have known who Jani Lane was at that point. Some young girl? Some old lady? Come on now!

It's a pretty well known fact around town that he alienated most everyone before he ended up there.
So many people tried to help. Not the hangers on, or the ex wives, but real people in the local rock community, just friends.
I don't recall anything about a note, but I could be wrong.
No one ever thought it was suicide, he just drank himself to death. It's that simple.
It's just the same sad end, of many rockstars, booze, drugs, whatever.
Stop looking for things that aren't there.
There was a note in his pocket, and it simply read: "I am Jani Lane" > https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/a ... ocket.html

This was done, from my knowledge, more than once, and often for what it's worth. Why? Simple... Jani was a mess... a wreck... in a drunken stupor, losing his wallet, ID, and the rest. The article I shared, also states this!

Like an addict with that severe of a problem, people tend to lose themselves, no pun intended, and everything with them.

Women who do that (and get blackout drunk) do the same, forget where their purse is, lose their cell-phone, etc...

This is why the "note" was in his pocket, on his person... for the exact reason it ended up being used in this unfortunate situation. I'd bet, he had NO ID, NO wallet on him either, and it was noted in Police Reports, that he did not check himself into the Motel Room, a roadie (friend) did.

And... your assessment otherwise, is spot on. As stated, many tried to help him, for years, perhaps a solid decade plus... but... it clearly didn't work!

Oh, that's even worse that I thought...that's very sad.
We all knew he was a mess. He was stumbling around the Hollywood clubs all the time right before this happened.
People I knew tried to help, but he wasn't having it.

And just for the record, I've been plenty drunk, and have never lost a purse, wallet or cell phone. I know who you're referring to though... Such a goddamn shame!

Years ago I was tending bar and a semi-regular. He'd usually just drink couple beers by himself, but this time he ordered a White Russian — then a second, third, and asked for a fourth. I went down the bar to make #4, and when I came back something had happened to him. He was mouthing words to me, but nothing was coming out.

Before I could ask him if he was okay, dude fell out of the stool and hit the ground HARD and just laid there screaming - but totally asleep. He was an older guy, so we called 911. EMSA roll in, open his wallet, and a note falls out:

"My name is Robert. I cannot drink. My medication makes it dangerous for me to do so. If I am found drinking, call such-and-such at 555-5555"

I figure in about 10 years there will be more of a mystique around Jani’s death and he’ll be viewed more of a Jim Morrison character.
Their demises were similar

This is pretty delusional and a stretch...

Only an 80's hairband fan would say such a ridiculous thing.

Does Warrant have any soft rock radio/grocery store etc. staples? I would think Sometimes She Cries or Heaven would be them, but I haven't heard either of those "out" in forever.

Why is that?
Once a new crop of young music fans finds 80s rock they’ll make their own decisions.
Plenty of people around Morrison at the time of his death thought he was pathetic, including Danny Fields who worked at Elektra records and actively pushed for the next new music style.. punk rock. He pushed for signing The Stooges.

Sounds kind of familiar.

I think Jani was a great songwriter and maybe one of the most talented people in the hairband scene, but unless some insane effort is made to document his life, that will never happen. He's been dead almost 14 years already. Jim Morrison was already a legend 14 years after his death.

As for Jani, there's been zero releases of unreleased material that he had laying around, and he had a lot. There are many albums worth of finished songs he had but nobody has put them out or cares to, for whatever reason. A few years ago some guy was saying he wanted to make a movie about Jani but that obviously never happened. I'm not saying a documentary about him on Netflix wouldn't be fascinating, but it appears nobody cares enough to follow through with anything like that.

well, maybe Morrison was a bit over the top.
I meant any drug/alcohol death of a cult figure within their field.

Like also, say, for example, Steve Clark? Phil Lynott? Bon Scott? If we include Jani, we might as well include them.

Cherry Pie Guy died 20 years after his prime. His "legacy" has been diminishing since 1991 and in 2025 he's all but forgotten.
If you think there's some magical resurgence coming you must be on crack.
