Bands with odd stage member placement

Back when they had the six member line up of King Crimson in the 90s, bandleader Robert Fripp was in the back in between the two drummers. Sometimes with very little lighting.

Yes! He was into that whole Guitar Craft thing and he insisted on being seated while playing, and as one of just the fucking weirdest dudes in rock, he also demanded that he sit virtually backstage, noticed only during band intros near the end.

My contribution:

Linda McCartney standing onstage behind a keyboard she didn't play and a mic she didn't sing into. At least Yoko didn't try to hide her non-talent.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

Homeboy gets 90% of the stage, the peasants and pondscum get to fight over the remaining 10% area over there on the left.

I was just about to chime in - agreed! I saw him and it was an embarrassingly stupid setup.

He crammed the rest of the band into the corner while he hogged the entire stage!

Yeah, Brad Wilk started doing this early-ish on with RATM. IIRC he went back and forth a few times with this.

The Sex Pistols Anarchy in the UK video has the drummer in front of the band but I think that was just a one-off for the video.

Robert Sweet from Stryper often had/has his stuff set up so he's basically sitting sideways.

Interesting thread.

Yah, I saw their first tour and it was like that. The whole front of the stage was a scrim that they projected stuff on, and the musicians were behind it just barely lit.

Don't know how many fans they have here, if any, but The Joy Formidable used to set up with their former drummer sideways and off to the side. He was pretty entertaining to watch tho

Jon Brion at Largo in LA. Instruments all over the stage, and he was just at whatever one happened to be going at the time. Carmine Appice (sitting right behind me) was way into it.
