That kingofthehill album is an underrated gem. Loved it back in the day. Stupid band name though.

They were Broken Toyz for years before that. Either the label changed it or there was another band named that, can’t remember.

“The Hill” is an area of St Louis where most of the Italian American families lived. Not sure if the reference is to that or not. The drummer was Italian, but I think Frankie is Brazilian or something?

The Eyes was another very popular STL band from the same time period (only alternative) who were the Eyes for ever and then got singed and changed the name to Pale Divine.

My band did a great show with both bands back in 1992 sponsored by a local music rag. It was a cool mix with hair/funk metal, thrash/prog metal and a dark alt band.

Yup...

We (Tuff) first met those guys when we played the "Furst Rock" in the summer of 1989 while on tour.

I recall meeting them when we arrived as Frankie was working with Lynn (club manager) in the office.

We immediately struck up a friendship and when they did their sound-check we immediately knew they were great!

Had a blast, hung for a few days and kept in touch over the next year or two.

Ironically we both ended up getting signed around the same time and Howard Benson Produced both of our debut records.

All good guys for sure...

Oh, cool. I didn’t realize you had the same producer. Lynn managed ANACRUSIS as well until around ‘89 or so. She worked with pretty much all the local STL bands starting in the early to mid ‘80s. We cut ties after we got signed and did our first album. She kept our multitrack tapes for the first album which she was holding onto for safe keeping because we owed her like a couple hundred bucks for mail or something stupid. We were like “fuck it” at the time, but later I kicked myself hard. She died years ago and I have NO idea what the hell ever happened to the tapes. Sucks too because we owned the first two album and only licensed them to metal blade so I could legit remix them. If the AI shit ever gets good enough I may do it anyway, but it would be sweet to have the tapes.

She booked all the rock and metal shows at a Mississippi Nights which was the premiere nightclub in town for years. I think I only met Frankie once way back when but our drummer was really close to their drummer Vito when he was in the band which was shortly after they had gotten signed. He would never STFU about all the gear, support, etc they got compared to us on an independent thrash label high we got real sick of hearing about really quick. It ended up being a big reason we had a different drummer for the next album.

Frankie is a really talented guy and Lynn and everyone used to refer to him as a “white Prince” (the musician) back in the day.
