Lynch Mob - Wicked Sensation vinyl reissue, pros and cons

Post by exitflagger »

I finally got the yellow vinyl, double album reissue of Wicked Sensation after shopping it for quite a while. The regular "MSRP" price out of the gate was somewhere around 65 to 70 bucks and there was no chance in hell I was parting with that much for it. Finally found it a little cheaper, 40 dollar range, still pricey, but I pulled the trigger. Here are some observations:

Cons:
- It was obviously taken from a previous vinyl copy as you can hear an occasional tick/crackle that wouldn't be on a brand new freshly opened copy.
- The gatefold image is the band pic posing on motorbikes that was included on the original, but it looks like it was blown up from a tiny image because the picture is terribly pixelated.
- All the lyrics, thank yous and liner notes from the original... nowhere to be found. I still can't figure out why a big-money reissue like this would have LESS to offer than the OG CD had, the CD which you can find from time to time for almost nothing at thrift stores and bargain bins.

Pros:
- It beats the hell out of that ridiculous "reimagined" horseshit that Lynch put out. Hell, a root canal beats that shit. Just awful. Cover image is very similar on that one, like they're trying to trick people. Not cool.
- The sound is damn good. It has more dynamic range than the OG press. I remember being very disappointed with that BITD. The audio rocks on this one IMO. Maybe because they spread it out over two records, I don't know.
- I still dig the hell out of this album. It has held up much better over the years than the old Dokken stuff. Just my preference. I like Oni Logan's vocals.

The Kiss Carnival of Souls vinyl reissue is like this. I'm guessing the only copy of the artwork they had was CD size and they just blew that up. Lazy, lazy, lazy nights.

Thanks man! Glad you liked it!

Also, this is on Friday Records and the guy who mastered it "from Elektra tapes" is Joe Reagoso. I don't buy the "tapes" part but he did a good job.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

By the metrics of the inflation calculator- $35.23 in today's money would be a $12.99 album in 1988 money.

It feels crazy high to what we remember, but $40 for a current vinyl album isnt even really outrageous, with the dollar's buying power now.

Awesome album but that’s lame that it’s not even from the original source. Poor artwork and no lyrics make it even worse.

I've never bothered with vinyl reissues. I usually look to grab the originals at a used record store for under 5 bucks.

My uneducated perception is that 95% of vinyl reissues are just overpriced, low quality cash grabs from the labels who are looking to take advantage of the few people willing to pay $50 for a record in 2025. They throw out the lowest quality they can get away with - no lyrics, no original let alone expanded insets, misspellings, shitty mp3 transfers from a CD, pixelated art, etc.

Am I wrong?

How about 3 months from now?
