He seems to be a Juggalo

A very good song. It was sad how the guitarist/songwriter: got fired over his drinking as they were finishing the album, possibly got screwed over for royalties as they showed him the door, and finally ended up killing himself not long after the band got big.

Perfect song. Flawless. 10/10. Gin Blossoms have several perfect songs.

As mentioned above the story of the original guitar player is really sad. The solo on this was apparently the only take they could get out of him due to his condition so it’s what you hear. And it’s still perfect.

Seeing the band for the first time this summer in OC.

I'm pretty sure he was the main writer on that album. If you actually listen to the lyrics, just about every song is about drinking and feeling sorry for yourself. It translated into great art though. It's one of my favorite records.

Till I Hear it From You was a great song but their 2nd album only had a couple tunes worth listening to. I haven't bothered to listen to anything after that. I like the lonely drinking songs. RIP.

Should’ve kept the original lyric, “drink” as they rode his song to success

One of my favorite bands! Saw them open for Toad the Wet Sprocket twice back in college. That was my dream concert back then.

All the songs Doug wrote are perfect but lots of great songs not written by him! Also lots of other great albums after the first one!

I'd rate it a good 7 out of 10. It's a good solid classic 90's alt-rock tune, anyway.

My buddies opened for them 10-13 years ago. The singer Robin asked them “have any weed?” And next thing they know they were all blazing before show time.

I’m completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. These two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.

Great song, and even though 80's hair bands are my favorite genre/music, the 90's was my formative years, so a lot of the 90's music has that nostalgic vibe for me..Gin Blossomns has a number of great songs with "Found Out About You" being my favorite.

Good, catchy. But I found I tired of it more quickly than other 90s pop/rock tunes that had the hooks in vocal melody. Stuff from dada, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and others have stayed in listening rotation longer. Hey Jealousy needs something else, more of a hook from the players or a strong bridge or . . . something to move it from "quite good" to "truly great." In that time period, bubbling in the underground were the truly great pop/rock songwriters of that generation: Jon Brion, Jason Falkner, Andy Sturmer, Kevin Gilbert - people like that. And Steven Wilson was already getting going.

New Miserable Experience is one of the best power-pop albums of the 90s. Also one of the best albums about alcoholism.

Hey Jealousy is a great song. If Doug could have got his shit together and got cleaned up he could have gotten exposure through the success of New Miserable Experience and went on to have his own career. Gin Blossoms best songs were written by him.

This is such a sad story. I read that the label and management hosed him with publishing so I always thought less of the Gin Blossoms for going along with that but reading this article again, it's clear that they were in an incredibly difficult position. I think they were all in their late 20's/early 30's which is practically ancient for a newly signed band. So what are they supposed to do? Piss away their shot because this guy can't get it together?

But I feel for him too. "This time his voice had the absolute absence of God." What a way to describe depression's end of the line.

At the end of the day, it leaves this message: At least stick around to watch the second album flop. It sounds like he might've enjoyed that.
