INDY 500 RACE ... Ok, where are the open-wheel race fans on here? The race is about to start...

The one that started it all. Spreading gossip and insults since 1998.

And... a driver already crashed on the warm-up lap. Ouch!

Not a huge fan, but of course the Indy 500 is a Memorial Day tradition, so it's on in the background as I clean out a closet or two today!

I am rooting for the following; Team Letterman with SATO the Japanese driver, along with the Rookie who is on the Poll for the first time in 40+ years!

Who ya got?

The Andretti curse continues as Marco Andretti crashes in the first lap of the race! #wtf

His Grandpa Mario won the race in 1969... Father Michael has failed in dozens of attempts, and now his kid comes up short yet again!

Right...

This race is def a bucket list thing... I do find it amazing that these guys are going 230+ mph a foot apart!

Think about that... when you are going 70 on the freeway, and some car blows past you doing 100+.... you're like "whoa!"

Imagine a car going 2 1/2 times that speed... mind boggling!

Right...

And I can't stress enough, how much I dislike when these races end on a Yellow Flag!

Of course the Yellow was thrown as the cars rounded the final turns, but still... there have been some amazing straight-away finishes over the years.

Meh, it was a lukewarm race at best!

Having gone to Indiana University , we were about 45 minutes from the race track for the Indy 500. We went to the race and practice days multiple times … I am not a huge race fan , but it’s worth checking out the race in person . You have no idea how fast 225 MPH is until you see it in person. Words can’t describe that kinda speed until you see it live. The Indy 500, much like the sport of hockey , is soooooo much more fun to watch in person !!!!!

& the crazy thing is the cars could go so much faster. Heck, they were just as fast and even faster in the 1980s & 90s than they are now because of the restrictions for safety. You can see here the qualifying times from 91 to 02. In 96 they were running mid 230s and I suppose that was enough, so changes were made and the next year top qualifying speed dropped down to 215.

You should go to the Long Beach GP. Especially during qualification and practice, you can basically stand on the side of the track (behind a fence but REALLY close). When you're near a hairpin turn that they come out of at like 20mph and hit the gas into a straight like they're shot out of a canon, it's awesome!
