Blocking old friends on Facebook, ....because?

Geez. Honestly I can barely count on one hand the Meaningful reconnections from Facebook, both college and high school. Reasons for eventually blocking. ...

1. They're seemingly incapable of the attention span required to type out interesting things by which you can forge any sort of relationship.

2. Endless bragging about possessions, vacations, boats, houses.

3. Political assholes on both sides.

4. They never respond to MY posts.

5. Asking for prayer for a cousins uncles gallbladder surgery

I quit FB years ago. It’s awesome. No social media bs and old classmates can’t find me. They use it for class reunions and crap like that. I’m always on the list of those they can’t locate according to my wife. I don’t want to see any of them so it works out great.

Not my experience at all. I never post any politics. Have used it to stay in loose touch with friends from original town and university. A few of those even led to coffee or dinner when people came through town (we live about 1500 miles away from original home). I keep posts to "friends only" so don't get a lot of junk in my feed. No one seems to go overboard with braggodoccio or such. Almost none have been in jail. I've made some new friends from those classes among people who were not close friends in high school.

Eh, its been great for seeing friends' kiddos, sharing a good thai recipe, being introduced to good music and interesting to see the journey of people I've known for 40 years.

Some are hilarious, some are just sad but that's how it goes. There's some that posture and others cant shut the fuck up about politics; those are the one's I cut loose.

A buddy of mine mentioned this weekend that he's lost more friends to politics than drugs. Sad and I think we have Facebook to thank for that.

I still like Facebook. I don't share, but I love to see pics & updates of people that I have known throughout life. I have also had dinner or coffee with people whom I haven't seen in years.

I went to HS in a small midwestern town of about 10K people. I enjoyed HS, but since then, even my best friends have taken different paths, and we no longer have anything in common. I'm not a sentimental person, so I don't miss them, desire to talk to them, or see what their lives are like. Not being on FB is blessing. If I were, I'd do as others have mentioned and block religion/politics/memes.

I noticed years ago that girls in particular would clear their friends list periodically. Nothing dramatic. Just people who moved away or no longer socialized with them.

Most dudes will just be friends with anyone.
