MASS Voices in the Night. Bought it in 1989 and I didn't even own a CD player. It would be another 3 years before I would even own one. Glad I bought it as I would have never found it once I got the CD player. I still have the CD.

Got debuts from Skids & Warrant on my bday (Feb) as my first 2.
Didnt actually have a CD player yet as my GF bought me one as the bday gift (then broke up with me a couple weeks later)

LBWET from Tower Records around '90. I still have it on CD but not the same copy.

I got the first portable Walkman CD player and the spring-loaded car dock in 1986 when I got my first car. I never used cassettes previous to getting my license and it seemed stupid to start buying cassettes at that point for my car. The CD Walkman was wired directly to an amp and speakers. My car only had an AM radio (It was a 1970 Olds 442) and I had no interest in radio anyways. Sounded great but despite the "floating" platform the CD player sat on it still skipped occasionally. There was no buffering on the early portable CD players.
I think the first CD I got was KISS Unmasked (it seemed to be the only KISS CD available at that time) and I ordered Music From The Elder from Japan for $50.
I also got Double Platinum from Japan but don't remember the cost. I do remember the Japanese translated lyric sheets being super funny. "Don't wash your man behind his ears! He's worth a Deuce!" Over those early years I bought a lot of CDs from Japan because they weren't available in the US yet. The first W.A.S.P. album, Ramones Animal Boy are two that come to mind.
I don't have any CDs anymore. They sat unused in my basement for years and then it flooded and they were thrown out. I haven't had a player in decades.
The idea of carrying around physical media and popping a disc in/out seems insanely archaic when I can just ask Alexa to play whatever song/album/artist/genre I want using my voice. I have Alexa everywhere in my house, yard, cars, headphones, and cell phone.

I wonder if that's the same thing I had. I got the little Sony Discman docking plate that was on a flexible "arm" that you attached to a bolt of your passenger seat. It actually worked perfectly. I don't recall it ever skipping for me.Velvis wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 9:41 am I got the first portable Walkman CD player and the spring-loaded car dock in 1986 when I got my first car. I don't recall the first CD I bought.
I had a CD player in a Sony boombox type stereo thing, that I bought in the mid 90's but I had so many cassettes, I generally listened to them.
I didn't have a CD player in my car until 2000, that's when I started buying them.
We had a great vintage record store in North San Diego County, where I lived at the time. I bought dozens of CD's there.

Yeah, I recall it had a flexible arm. I never used it as my car had a hidden ashtray in the dash above the radio. I removed the cigarette lighter (used the wiring to power the CD player) and removed the ashtray itself and the CD player fit perfect in it and when the ashtray door was shut you couldn't see the player so it didnt get ripped off. It was the perfect spot for it.Indy_Rob wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 10:43 amI wonder if that's the same thing I had. The first CD I bought was Girls Girls Girls in spring 1988. I still didn’t have a player but a few of my friends did. I then bought the first 3 Crue CDs one at a time over the next few months. Then in 1989 I bought Pump, the Winger debut and the Skid Row debut. Shortly afterwards I bought a boom box with a CD player, and then started buying almost all CDs. I still have all of those original ones I bought.

Journey Raised on Radio. Cardboard long-box. About 3-4 weeks before my 1st cd player. 1st CD/song I ever heard was George Michael's Faith in a stereo store.

It was GNR AFD. I still have it. Its one of those old analog analog digital ones. I put one of those adhesive rings on it towards the center, that were supposed to make it sound better. Yes I was that stupid then and now
