Sure. But then the Crue had Dr Feelgood and were bigger than ever. Ratt never made it that far even though it seemed like they had plenty of MTV play for tunes off of DU.Love_Industry wrote: ↑Thu May 29, 2025 3:14 amThey never made an album as good either. Invasion is close but there is more filler there.
You could argue that TFFL was Mötley's best but at least they had quality singles like HSH, Wild Side and GGG. Ratt after Invasion had what? Way Cool Jr, I Want a Woman....

I think I saw a mention somewhere that sometime in the mid-late 80's Stephen was a model/poster boy for Playgirl magazineLitaStrauss wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 4:13 pm I didn't know any girls who had pinups of any member of Ratt on their walls at that time. Re: Ratt Detonator U.S. tour
As someone who watched an absolute shitload of MTV in 1990-1991, Detonator was DOA.
Winger, Poison, Warrant, Skid Row, Motley, Cinderella, Slaughter, and to a lesser extent Trixter and later Firehouse were what was on the air from mid 90 to mid 91.
I NEVER saw videos from Ratt. Ever. I think I saw Lovin You is a Dirty Job a handful of times. If they were playing a Ratt video, it was them pulling Round and Round out of the closet on Hey Pauly or something.
I think I saw the Nobody Rides For Free video more than LYIADJ, but that came and went very quickly as well.

Billboard used to list MTV playlists in the 80/90s and it looks like Nobody Rides for Free was only in regular rotation for 3 weeks - fun fact, Tuff's video debuted the same week that Ratt's did and lasted over twice as long in rotation.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Thu May 29, 2025 1:01 pm As someone who watched an absolute shitload of MTV in 1990-1991, Detonator was DOA.

That sounds right. I don't think I've seen either of those videos to this day, even just going back randomly on youtube. And yes, I Hate Kissing You Goodbye definitely made it's presence felt on Dial MTV for a few weeks, I was going to make the point that I saw that video more than LYIADJ, but it also wasn't released at the same time, so wasn't really a fair comparison.woblinweebles wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 9:13 am

From those box offices, Warrant/Trixter/Firehouse were outdrawing Ratt/LA Guns/Bang Tango. As it's already been said numerous times in this thread, the newer bands were miles above Ratt by 1991. Even if grunge hadn't come along, Ratt was on its last legs anyway. They needed to break up and go away for a decade.
People like to blame grunge for every hairband dying off, but the truth is a lot of them did themselves in without any help from grunge. Just like every scene, some bands can have a 30 year career and other bands burn out and die.

Yup, they played Irvine Meadows on September 14, 1991. I have a nice audio bootleg of that show.Sleek wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 11:21 amI was on that tour, probably standing right off-stage in this video.Mister Freeze wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 8:37 am
Since cookies know everything I do, this concert was recommended on my YouTube feed after reading this thread. It's Ratt playing Bally's in Las Vegas in 1991, just days after the Ratt n' Roll compilation was released.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DK-Ao9b9-2w&t=193s
Not sure if this was considered a continuation of the Detonator tour or something new. Some of the Contraband guys make encore appearances at the end.
Bally's is a weird choice for Vegas. Did they play the Jubilee Theater? If so, that's a small venue.
It was supposed to be a Ratt/L.A. Guns/Contraband tour, but Richard Black got his fool self thrown off after the first date in Florida...so it ended up being Schenker just sort of melded in with Ratt, then Tracii would come out at the end and they would do whatever Contraband shit with Pearcy singing, usually just some jammy covers like in this video.
We used a little Randall (1x12 or 1x15) tube combo amp on a chair for Tracii during that part of the show. DO NOT KNOW WHY I REMEMBER THAT BUT NOT MY MOM'S BIRTHDAY.
I think my laminate still has the Detonator picture on it. I'm not home or I would look at it and go: "Meh."
The Bally's date was the last show of the tour, I think. If not, it was next-to last. 4 of my brain cells think there might have been an L.A. show after this, BUT AM NOT SURE.
The show was in this gigantic semi-permanent tent structure in the parking lot. Probably topped out at 6,000 seats. It was big, but not full-assed arena big.

I think it was more that the scene was already starting to die in 1990. Bands were getting dropped left and right. I went to a Lynch Mob concert in Feb 91 where they handed out mini-posters that said "Demand Your Lynch Mob - call 1-800 DIAL MTV and request River of Love". Some sad shit right there. Most of them ended up on the floor. I got mine signed afterwards. It was a great set but it was in a club. It was over.LitaStrauss wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 1:42 pm From those box offices, Warrant/Trixter/Firehouse were outdrawing Ratt/LA Guns/Bang Tango. They still had a home on HBB to a certain extent, but yeah, otherwise it was close to being over. I’d say spring-to-mid-1991 was more the beginning of the end, even with “More Than Words” and “To Be With You” hitting #1.Bono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Sat May 31, 2025 5:34 amI think it was more that the scene was already starting to die in 1990. Acoustic ballads being en vogue for 6 months were just another mile marker on the hair metal death timeline. Their electric songs were ignored.

This doesn't surprise me at all. Like I said, you saw those three bands on MTV. Of the other three, at that point, LA Guns was getting a little love for Kiss My Love Goodbye, and that was it.LitaStrauss wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 1:42 pm From those box offices, Warrant/Trixter/Firehouse were outdrawing Ratt/LA Guns/Bang Tango. I don't think I knowingly heard a Bang Tango song until playing the first Saint's Row video game, and I damn sure never saw one of their videos.

This was my recollection as well. Ratt still got a lot of airplay on MTV up to Detonator. I saw Loving You a few times when it was first released and quickly faded and Shame Shame Shame very few times. I always felt that Nobody Rides For Free and Motley's Primal Scream were the official end of the era.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Thu May 29, 2025 1:01 pm As someone who watched an absolute shitload of MTV in 1990-1991, Detonator was DOA.

Outside this board, does that even matter? Considering beyond this message board Tuff are still unknown.
