We're not saying it sounds like Saturday morning bubblegum music, we are saying it is INFERIOR to Saturday morning bubblegum music.

Name a rock band who has a normal fan base? Zeppelin fans are notoriously stuck up, take themselves too seriously to the point of parody and are also delusional.

Van Halen’s fan base are practically a cult especially when it comes to Eddie and Dave.

Iron Maiden fans are almost like school children in their devotion. I’ve seen grown dudes cry at Maiden shows

Metallica fans use some serious mental gymnastics to try and validate all their shitty output since TBA. You need to look no further than this board for desperate justifications of Load, Reload and everything that came after. I will give the band they’ve put in a good effort with mixed results with DM thru 72. They were a different band and a much better band back in the 80s. They lost themselves after AJFA.

GNR and Axl fans, like Chip, are also way too serious and contort themselves into trying to legitimize Axl’s takeover of the band and laughable legacy. If Paul or Gene had done what Axl did with GNR, they would be brutalized on here. But Chip and others are like “Chin Dem is solid and legit” when it’s Axl’s version of Music From The Elder.
I missed this reply earlier. The difference is that 70s kids got into KISS for the make-up, gimmicks and Saturday-morning-cartoon-level music. And now aged 50/60/70-something, they're still playing with KISS dolls and watching kiddie cartoons. Some Zep, GnR etc fans might be OTT but they were and are fans for and only for the music.

The same goes for adult Transformers and WWE fan-babies.
Not entirely true. I got into Kiss in '76 as a 12 year old for the music, particularly the first 3 studio albums and Alive!. I was out by '79 with Dynasty. The dolls and merch "fans" are not the real Kiss fans, they came later as 8 year olds with Dynasty and the stupid Vegas outfits. That's why they like shit like Unmasked and the Elder. The real fans were already outta there.

The Mego Barbie dolls, bubblegum cards, belt buckles, KISS Your Face Makeup kit, lunch boxes, pinball machine and the Hanna-Barbara movie of the week were ALL BEFORE Dynasty. Dynasty came out a good seven to eleven months AFTER all that shit and next to the first three, it’s one of the best albums they ever did.

You “real fans” who bailed in 1979-1981 and didn’t come back until 1996. With fair weathers like that who needs critics and playa haters. Your loss.

So pyrotechnics, drum risers, cherry-pickers, staircases and blood spitting is uncool?

I was never into the merch much. I never owned a comic book, belt buckle or makeup kit. I wish I had the pinball machine. I was a fan of the band’s image, stage production and most importantly I was a fan of their music. They wrote great records and played memorable, rocking songs.

Their music was every bit as solid and as heavy as just about any of the hard rock bands of their time who all stood around staring down at the mustaches (mustache-gaze). KISS just had SO MUCH more than the average band. Compared to the Dolls or some of that other shit, they were Led Fucking Zeppelin.
Old man who plays with Kiss dolls complains that people laugh at him for playing with Kiss dolls.

ETA you deserve a proper answer too: regardless of how Kiss started out, they CHOSE TO become a dolls + comics + gimmicks band not long after, and have CHOSEN TO continue to mine that seam for 50 years.

Fake News!!!

Some have of course there’s just no way that’s true.

And the rest of them wear a bra so they know how it works too.

And Sleek mentioned The Archies “Sugar Sugar” I’ll give him that but Scooby Doo and the gang partied like rock stars while never being in an actual band.

If he had mentioned Fat Albert and his junkyard band then I would agree with everything he said.

Tired of the false narratives in this thread.

And Ace was never fired either so there’s that to damn it.

Not a gatekeeper. I just wanted some historical accuracy. Kiss’s Howard The Duck comic, something I barely remember and never owned came out two years before their “disco album.” I owned and will own owning the disco album all year long and thrice on Sundays. F*ck Howard The f*cking Duck. I vividly remember the movie of the week, the solo albums, Alive II, Alive, Destroyer, Hotter Than Hell and KISS.

It sounds like maybe you owned Howard The Duck. Dynasty and Unmasked > Howard The Duck

He was the one who started it with the real fan bs. He claimed the band stopped being a real band with 1979’s Dynasty. Which is laughable

He was cool with soft, saccharine, sugary sweet ballads like Beth and Hard Luck Woman, cheesy Howard The Duck comics, bubble gum cards, belt buckles, Barbie dolls, cardboard love guns, washable tattoos, Kiss your face makeup kits, lunch boxes, and a cheesy movie of the week made by the top Saturday morning cartoon company of the time. But I Was Made For Loving You, Dirty Livin, Charisma and 2,000 Man were one step too far? This is why KISS fans are a joke. The Rolling Stones fans didn’t abandoned them on Some Girls and Emotional Rescue. Eagles fans didn’t leave with the release of One Of These Nights.

Metallica fans didn’t even leave when they cut their hair and released Load and Reload.

I’ve been a KISS fan since the late 70s and I have nothing but contempt for the majority of the fan base. The only bigger idiots I’ve experienced are Motley Crue fans.

I don’t have the dolls or “action figures” as fans in denial like to call them. I never got into the merch much. Sure, I had some bubble gum cards in the late 70s and wanted the lunch box and Gene Simmons belt buckle. But I never had them. Some of my friends did.

I’m not crying. I’m just flipping some shit. I’m laughing. KISS Meets Howard was cool to dyslexicheart but Charisma, 2,000 Man, Dirty Living and Magic Touch wasn’t.

Lol, dude - real fans don't cry in public. Go play with your dolls, maybe you'll feel better.

KISS Meets Howard was cool to dyslexicheart but Charisma, 2,000 Man, Dirty Living and Magic Touch wasn’t.
you’ve been kinda proving the point of this thread.
Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?
