DRUM WAR …
Stryper’s Michael Sweet compares his brother Robert to Tommy Lee: “Robert would play circles around him. The problem is popularity. Tommy obviously has more fans and plays to larger crowds”

I used to be a fan of Stryper, but over the past 5-7 year, Michael's ego and level of douche baggieness has gotten to the point that it annoys more more than I enjoy Stryper. I've passed on going to their shows and getting the newer albums (they all look and sound the same anyways), because he is just such a douche.

I feel bad for Oz, Rob and Perry, who are stuck working with him.

Wow
I’m completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. These two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.

Same. I used to never miss them the last 15 years when they came to town, but I'm done with them.

The Trump support just illustrated how much of a complete and utter d-bag he is.

I always ignored all the phony religious stuff as being harmless, but I no longer feel that brainwashed religious people are harmless. Not when they carry that into the voting booth and want to tell everyone else what they can and cannot do.

Honestly, neither one of them do enough in their respective bands to say one way or another….That one is better. Dr Feelgood, the song, shows independence doing that tricky footwork while doing the barks on the hi hat. Red Hott is one of the more physically demanding songs for Mötley Crüe but I think Robert Sweet could probably nail that stuff no problem. They both have finesse, so I really don’t know how to compare them beyond that.

I think it comes down to face paint.

Tommy had those two black lines, but Robert had a bejeweled cross.

I guess it is still a s toss up.

When I posted this, I added some previous articles Stryper/Michael Sweet related... at the bottom of the article.

I had forgotten how many times he's said absolutely ridiculous stuff... the guy is always crying, whining, and he's a huge hypocrite.

Even when he's being complemented, he finds a way to be offended and lashes out.

Like the time that UltimateGuitar.com wrote a piece titled; "7 Great Glam Bands That the Rise of Grunge Hit the Most” and it listsed; Cinderella, Faster Pussycat, White Lion, Motley Crue, Winger, Stryper and Nitro.

Sweet was offended and had to make sure to tell everyone "We're not glam", and tries to distance themselves from that 80's tag.

February 10th 2023 > WE’RE NOT GLAM … Michael Sweet of Stryper: “Poison, Faster Pussycat and Tuff” were Glam and notes, “Stryper were NOT a Glam Band”
https://metalsludge.tv/were-not-glam-mi ... e_vignette

Ironically, the most recent post about the drum battle, is on a FB group called 'Hair Metal Music', and Sweet is jumping in.

It's safe to say, that Hair Metal also means Glam Metal to the masses, which he says they're no part of... at least in his eyes, so why is he even in this group?

It's mind boggling that a guy, in his 60's who sold millions of records, still tours and plays to decent crowds around the world, is reading Hair Metal fan groups on social media and being butt hurt over random fan opinions.

Like I wrote in my article, who does that? Well, besides Sebastian Bach, another tool who is always offended and doesn't feel he fits in the Hair Metal (Poison) category.

Sweet was also bitching when Stryper were not asked to be part of The Stadium Tour. He's a bitch!

My favorite is the Tim Gaines article... lol!

Sorry but there is no Stryper song that is memorable for the drum parts unlike a lot of Crue tunes. Maybe he can play better on a technical level who gives a shit if the actual drumming is boring and bland?

Matt Sorum is leagues better than Steven Adler ever was on a technical level. Guess what though...Adler sounds WAY better on GN'R songs that Matt ever did. There is no song that they both played live that Matt is better on IMO.

It’s clear Michael Sweet is a next level narcissist who reads his own press and gets butt hurt when it’s not in his favor.

I watched the interview with Robert Sweet a while back and he seems like a pretty decent dude. Always thought he looked like the consummate rockstar and I don’t listen to or purchase anything from Stryper.

Not sure why MS needs to insert himself into everything. That being said, he’s not wrong. I’ve seen them both more times than I can count. I’d take Robert over Tommy any day.

I like both bands and both drummers. I've seen them both numerous times in concert. Robert is good but IMO Tommy is a beast. Robert has slowed way down and doesn't play with the power or speed that he used to and he never matched what TL did on MC94. Tommy doesn't seem to have lost a beat.

Michael's statement is ridiculous.

Robert has always been a MFer on the drums. Had he not played in Stryper but rather a secular mainstream act like Ozzy, Whitesnake KISS, Dio, Scorpions etc, he would have gotten more recognition and respect

Holy (hehe) fuck what kind of bullshit is that?

Robert Sweet did not play on the album since he lost the CD that had the demos on it and he wasn't able to learn the material in time for recording. According to Michael Sweet it would have taken seven to ten days longer to record the drums with Robert but they didn't have the time or the budget to do so. As a result, the drum parts were provided by Kenny Aronoff and only took three days to record.[3] However, Robert Sweet was present on the tour that supported the album, as well as the commemoration of Stryper's 25th anniversary.

Stryper sucks (and blows), and for a guy who doesn't want to be associated with "80's hair/glam", the irony is that their only halfway decent album (Against The law) was when they were trying to fit into that scene.

When his wife died and he went and got remarried almost immediately afterward, I left some comments about it on YouTube. All opinion. I thought it was a lame move, even if he wasn't seeing her before his wife died. He messaged me telling me from the Stryper account threatening to sue me.

Tommy could play upside down . Sweet had to turn and face the wall.
