The debut, "Paranoid" and "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" are the best

I guess technically it is a studio album as most of it was redone in the studio incl all vocals.

What I don't ger is how an album of Sabbath covers played by a bunch of hair farmers from Quiet Riot and Night Ranger can be anyone's favorite after hearing Geezer, Bill and Tony play the same songs.
Excellent question, and I can only answer that at the time I found it to be a raw, in your face "live" album with excellent production that I loved throughout my teens, so it has a special meaning. I also hadn't been properly introduced to Sabbath prior, so many of the songs were the first time I heard them. I also didn't know Gillis and Sarzo as hair metal guys, and you have to admit it was one hell of a tight band.
Same. First album that exposed me to Sabbath, and it was fast and raw with flashy licks. When I got the studio albums, the songs were way too slow, doomy, plodding and lacked the fire of SOTD.

Now, I know they were supposed to sound that way, and i do like them now, but at the time it was a wtf moment for me.

Im not sure there's another band we could do this thread with, where practically every single album is listed as a fave by someone, and everyones list is entirely jumbled from best to worst completely differently from everyone elses. (For example, Ozzy solo, im sure Blizzard and Diary are gonna be on everyone's tops)

Maybe Priest with Halford? Didn't we do that once? Also VH with Roth - but some here don't like them at all?

i feel like most people, while they might not have them at their #1, find Screaming For Vengeance or VH1 pretty close to the top.

With Sabbath, the first 6 albums - different people will seem to put them in every order from everyone else.
