I continue to wonder why a channel that hasn’t shown a music video in decades still has a video music award. So lame.

Re: Ozzy Tribute -MTV VMAs
My new favorite subject is all of the Old Rocker and Metal Heads complaining about YUNGBLOOD!
I see a few comments here, but they're ALL over social media, on the various YT links, etc...
People bitching he's a show-off, that he tried to up-stage Steve Tyler, that he sang flat, they're annoyed he is often shirtless and the list goes on.
This includes all the complaints from the Back to the Beginning event.
Get over it... life is moving and the youth is coming fast... so accept it.
Also, while I am writing this, please know that all of your favorite rockers from the 70's and 80's will NOT be appearing at the Super Bowl half-time show in 2026 either.

Kid Rock was doing that 25 years ago. These kids these days don't do enough of the right kind of drugs to get in the right zone. It's all just theater kids who grew up on K-Pop and Disney at this point.
There's always been an element of that in rock and roll, but nowadays its pretty much all rich kids doing cosplay.
It's all fake.
I understand the general age for this board is 50+ but there's so much "get off my lawn" stuff on here it's crazy. You people are saying the exact same shit about new acts as what our parents said about Aerosmith, Kiss, Motley, GNR, Poison, etc. You'd think a board born from the love of hair bands would be a lot more tolerating of current outlandish acts who are doing that same fucking things the bands we grew up on did.

That's a fair take. It is a TV show, so yeah, they probably hire hot chicks to pretend to know the words of their grandpa's favorite song. Which looks better than cutting to her grandpa signing along, or to a bored crowd.LitaStrauss wrote: ↑Mon Sep 08, 2025 9:58 am It's certainly better than panning the crowd and having people with a blank stare or being on their phones.
Personally, I hate any crowd shots. I'm watching for the performance, not some mega fan losing their shit.

Re: Ozzy Tribute -MTV VMAs
I work at a guitar shop and lemme tell you something.
Teenage girls come in ALL the time, pick up guitars and blast riffs that would make every single one of you shut the fuck up with this 'kids today' crap. I regularly hear riffs and solos from Ozzy, Megadeth, Van Halen, Metallica, Type O Negative, Racer X (ALL the kids know Scarified)... I learned very quickly in this job that you absolutely cannot judge a book by its cover when it comes to music taste. You just can't.
And I get it. You get older and you have your identity tied to the things you liked when you were a kid, and you judge any subsequent generation against your own experience and somehow feel like yours was more authentic or whatever. But that's just a waste of energy. Feeding those feelings gives you nothing back. You get nothing of value from letting that kind of thought occupy your time.
And ultimately, this was what, seven minutes on a TV broadcast? Your role in it is to sit on your ass and look at a screen. You're doing that anyway so if you didn't like this seven minutes, change the channel, scroll to the next post, open a different app, whatever.

From the songs I’ve heard he’s more U2 than Motley Crue.
3 #1 albums in the Uk, 7.6 billion global streams … kinda popular.

Not comparing, I said he’s using their stage moves and it’s fun to see their moves again since they are too DEAD to do them.
joey78 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 08, 2025 10:50 am Youngblood comes of as a total Poser. I thought the same during Back to the Beginning and this performance has done nothing to change my opinion of him
I don’t know how people can draw comparisons to Freddie and Weiland . It is absurd for people to even think that in my opinion
Someone mentioned that the beauty of Changes was its subtlety . Absolutely. There was nothing subtle about this performance
Steve Tyler , Joe Perry, Nuno - although great musicians - are the wrong choice to cover Ozzy . I never understood why Tyler and Sammy were asked to perform at Ozzy’s farewell either . They were not influenced by Ozzy and nothing they have recorded in their career has ever been close to the musical ballpark of Ozzy or Sabbath.
Ozzy is METAL . And none of the guys on stage are METAL. This performance was a joke !

I don't know Yungblood at all. But my kids do. They thought he did a great job at the Ozzy Tribute, so I believe them.
They are well versed in great music. They had no choice when they were kids. We listened to what I wanted to listen to.
But as they grew up, they ventured into the music of their generation too.

Can we pin this to the top of the board please? The idea that music died with our generation is absurd. I expect this kind of attitude from the boomers but seeing Gen X adopt the same attitude is just sad.Shredderpete wrote: ↑Mon Sep 08, 2025 6:23 pm I work at a guitar shop and lemme tell you something.

Just looked it up, yeah this 28 year dude had a song chart on US Alternative in 2017 and his first BB200 charting album was in 2020. Figured he was just one of dozens of English singers who got love on US alternative rock/college rock stations in the past decade.

Pitchfork review:
The Sacrilegious Ozzy Osbourne Tribute
The VMAs’ tribute to late Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osborne was the most banal kind of sacrilege. For one, there’s nothing metal about Yungblud unless your idea of metal is Criss Angel Mindfreak. As Nuno Bettencourt shredded indiscriminately over Randy Rhoads’ iconic riff, the English pop-punk singer mugged and headbanged his way through “Crazy Train.” Meanwhile, Steven Tyler (who maybe shouldn’t have been invited in the first place) practically mangled his vocal cords doing “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” alongside guitarist Joe Perry. When Yungblud joined the Aerosmith musicians at the front of the stage you could tell Perry wasn’t having any of his antics, which was funny, but hardly a proper sendoff for such a titan of rock music.

Re: Ozzy Tribute -MTV VMAs
You're still missing it! We (well not all of us) complain there's no rock anymore. No guitars! No music with balls. The awards shows ignore our heroes, never play rock music. Here we get all of the above; rock & roll at an awards show celebrating one of our heroes and it's still not good enough. It's NEVER good enough.Ralph2 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 09, 2025 8:12 amTBH, I think everyone would rather see a Charlie XcX or something ...............HueyRamone wrote: ↑Tue Sep 09, 2025 7:10 amYeah! That's not the point!! Fuck! Would you rat6her have this 'no talent' up there with Nuno (and Derek Frank on bass who's a pal of mine, but who fucking cares?) doing Ozzy songs with Marshall stacks shaking the stage exposing music to people that would never hear it, or Megan Thee Stallion singing about her latest yeast infection? Fuck!!
FYI - I've worked with Nuno, and my talent comment was not directed at any of the musicians - Clearly he's an insane player!
The point being is there's no action here.
Its neutered at best................................
