Anything (music-related) we can ALL agree on? (...or most of us)

Post by Chip Z'Hoy »

I've tried this thread a couple times before with specific bands and each time was a failure.

I think my initial theory was that everyone liked Queen. Turns out some people don't like Queen.

I was extremely confident that my thesis could be proven with AC/DC. Apparently some people don't like AC/DC! I have no idea how that's even possible. Like, WHAT DO YOU MEAN you don't like AC/DC?

Did I try Cheap Trick? Come on, everybody likes Cheap Trick, right?

Alice? A REPUBLICAN! We all at least like the original Alice Cooper band, right?

Kiss...?

I was going to suggest the original Van Halen but Dym's going to call them a "cover band" again and I'll flip my lid. Too much lid-flipping these days. VH is off the table.

Some excellent suggestions, but THIS is something I think we can all get on board with.

There's been an "It's actually not that bad" reevaluation of that album in recent years but I think the vast majority here will still agree that it sucks.

I'm confident we have few, if any, Lulu contrarians.

Queen - generally yes
AC/DC - generally yes
Cheap Trick - 2 good songs and the most punchable face in the music business
Miss - Hahahahaha
Aerosmith - basically it's Reps and Dems, but "ballad era" v "rock era". Even the UN couldn't peacekeep between them.

Can't understand how VH1, Appetite and the first two Crue albums couldn't unite the board in praise though.

At least one.

I have to really be in the mood for it, and obviously I have to re-state "it's not a Metallica album, it's a Lou album with Metallica as his backing band", but as far as 90 minutes (or whatever) of bleak art-noise goes, I've heard worse.

Mick Wall once said he wanted to give it 10/10 in Classic Rock magazine but the editor ordered him to give it 6 or 7 and rewrite the review accordingly.

I think we can all agree that Winger's cover of "Purple Haze" is a shite song. Whether you like the rest of the album is debatable, but we can all agree Kip had no business ruining a perfectly good Hendrix tune.

Meh. If you never heard the wall or read 1984

Although the Beatles are nearly universally loved and/or respected you always have a few “they sucked” boneheads.

They were bigger than the Stones (and I never actually bought a Stones ticket or album), but I don’t know if I’ve ever heard anyone say they sucked at least in their better years. Can we all agree they were fantastic at what they did/do and are the quintessential RnR band?

How about the first Badlands album? I don't know if it's universally liked here, but it's got to be close. I've been posting here for 25 years (which boggles my mind, but that's a whole different story) and can't recall this album ever getting any kind of significant hate.

I still don't know if I heard it or am getting it confused with The Raven, which Metallica should have played on.

And I listen to Lou Reed somewhat regularly.

I think we all agree that VH3 is garbage. Even the VH diehards.

The original Alice Cooper band is a good call.
Also I remember from some previous thread that most here like Judas Priest at least to some extent. Maybe Sabbath but not all eras - someone hated the Dio "dungeons and dragons" era, others the "stoned out, sludgy, hippie" Ozzy era.

Probably is, but I think you'd have a hard time getting a consensus on best album. Same for Van Halen, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden.
