If you bought El Toro's, you wouldn't have a true Tele. It's a fine guitar, but getting no play time.
I've sold tons of guitars and have a few being refinished.
From this point on, keeper guitars either need to be really special and/or have stainless steel frets for me. I just don't want to refret this baby.

Would you guys put GFS pickups in an American Strat if you were me? Reason why I'm asking is that I've always felt that American/Japanese guitars deserved higher end pickups, but I'm really liking what I hear of a few sets of Guitarfetish Strat pickups.

Should I do it? Price isn't much of an issue for me, but I don't want to just spend more money just because of a name/prestige to the pickups, if that makes sense.

Hey guys. First time actually checking this thread out. Don't have time to scroll through the whole thing right now, so I apologize in advance if this has been covered already. Has anyone tried out the Tracii Guns signature Dean? There's a pretty cool review for it on YouTube:

How about harmonizers?
Doing a band where I got to do Queen style guitars...
I need something I can set up for one key, then change with a switch to a different key. Preferably in a pedal.
I know there is the Digitech Harmonyman and an Eventide unit...anybody know other options?

BOSS just reissued their Harmonist as the PS-6 and it does 3-part harmonies. About $149 and the one I had about 10 years ago was pretty nice. Simple to use too and tracks well.Sleek wrote:How about harmonizers?

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I have a boss ps-5, which is very similar.
I need something that'll do multiple keys though, so if a key shifts during a solo I can follow it...programmability would be good, too, because I could construct my own scales that could cover more than one key at a time, if I was craftsy....

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Well, if you're following chords within the basic progression of the song's key, then depending on how you write the solo that can still work. For a simple example, If you were playing in D major and then went to B minor, well the notes of the D major scale are ALSO the notes of B natural minor. You might have to write the solo artfully so that the specific notes you play as the chords change are notes that are ALSO within the original key's range.Sleek wrote:I have a boss ps-5, which is very similar.

Another way would be to get something like a Digitech RP350 which has an intelligent pitch shifter. and set up multiple adjoining presets to follow the progression, with all the same settings except that the harmony keys change. The RP350 has 70 user presets so you'd have room to do that a number of times if you really found you needed it. It also has multiple scale modes and not just major and minor like the pedals.

Anyone use Duncan Strat pickups? Which ones did you like? I am looking at the Classic Stack Plus and Vintage Hot Stack Plus.
Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
It's basically a Tele with an Epiphone-style batwing shaped headstock and painted up with the graphic he likes. Love how the winged Dean logo keeeps spinning in the air in front of that headstock. It's a cool review because it's TRACII doing the review of his own guitar!Aceyshred wrote:Hey guys. First time actually checking this thread out. Yes. Been using Duncan's for +/- 30 years. I tend to stay more towards the vintage stuffCaptain Morgan wrote:Anyone use Duncan Strat pickups? Which ones did you like? I am looking at the Classic Stack Plus and Vintage Hot Stack Plus.
than the hot rods but they make very good pickups. Either of the ones you
mentioned would be a good choice.
Seymour knows his shit. I've picked his brain when he used to do the Dallas, SoCal, and
Arlington guitar shows. Anybody who's making pickups these days is using
at least one technique that Seymour owned years ago. The fucking guy is
an awesome Jeff Beck-style guitarist too!

I've had great results with about 90% of the pickups I've used from him, aside from the Alnico II Pro, Pearly Gates, and the Custom. I really like their Tele pickups so I was hoping the Strat ones were just as good.Jack Sabbath wrote:Yes. Been using Duncan's for +/- 30 years. Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I had Duncans in a number of guitars... I don't think there was ever a sonic dog in the bunch. Choosing a pup is so overwhelming these days, with all the choice. Even if you're only looking at Duncan, they've got a load to choose from. Any time I'm interested in a particular model, I try to find out as much as I can from online searching. Look for reviews, Youtube vids, anything you can come up with. I've found that the good pups will get consistent praise, while the questionable ones will get bagged on more.Captain Morgan wrote:I've had great results with about 90% of the pickups I've used from him, aside from the Alnico II Pro, Pearly Gates, and the Custom. Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Reason why I'm asking about the Strat pickups is because I have an American Series Strat from about seven years ago, and I've never found the right pickups for it. I tend to use noiseless pickups but if a standard single coil is REALLY cool I'll go for that.
