Definitely covered. The only qualm I have about my dual humbucker guitar is that the open coils have a small lip on the edge of the pickup and when I hit a chord really hard the high E string sometimes gets knocked down and hangs up on that lip.hendrixstrat wrote:Taking a poll to help me decide..Covered or open coil buckers on a Les Paul?

If you don't mind Boss, The modulation setting on this one is the only redeeming quality..

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Man, I've been out of it. Pneumonia just took quite a toll on me. I forgot half of what I was supposed to be doing in the world. Regardless, I'm 90% back and developed bad GAS the whole time...
I may sell my Godin Redline, minty, for say $300 and my black Gibson SG1 with mirror guard (and the original too). The SG1 is 24 fret, 1 p/u and 25.5" scale. Say $600, if anyone is interested.
I still want that damn SE.
The only cool thing I've done in the last month is acquire a bunch of pedals on the cheap so I can make another "Big Red Machine" like I used to have.
Get this; I have patch cables, they always fail and take up room, so I bought a Hammond project box. I'm putting in an OptoStomp compressor ($30), a highly modded AM64 distortion ($20), a Carl's Custom Phase 90 / Univibe ($60), a Japanese FL9 flanger ($15) and a Digitech digital delay ($10). Everything will be buffered and true bypass.
It will be my "Big Black Box of Tricks." All in a 13.5" x 5" black project box!!!

I even got rid of my Dunlop 353Q wah for a Morley Maverick so it would be true bypass.

I just got a Palmer PGA-4...it is a speaker emulator with a built-in load box for recording direct. You just plug your amp in one side and a mic cable in the other. Pretty cool so far.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I bought an ISP Decimator pedal yesterday at Guitar Center. I tried it out on a Marshall JVM half stack with the gain up all the way, and all volume levels on eight. It really did wipe out quite a bit of the noise. I used a Paul Reed Smith for the test too. I usually don't bother with PRS, but this guitar actually had a separate bridge and tailpiece.

It appears the DOD might be a poor fit. Any "small" delays you guys think are cool and cheap?

BBE Green Screamer may be on the way soon - Drivetrain is nice but not as smooth as I want.
Any suggestions for a singlecoil sized humbucker in the bridge of a Strat? Don't like Strat bridge pickups so I'm opting for something different. I play a Blues Jr. so no high gain use here.

Duncan Cool Rails? PAF type output in a single coil size.Captain Morgan wrote:BBE Green Screamer may be on the way soon - Drivetrain is nice but not as smooth as I want.

Cool Rails? Are they supposed to sound like a PAF?
And Toro - I'm looking for a "budget" pedal right now.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Well, the single-coil JB would probably sound more like a PAF. I mentioned the Cool Rails because they have a lower output than the Hot Rails. I should've thought of the mini-JB because I have one in the neck of my Yamaha RGX611M, but I have used Hot Rails in the past as a bridge pickup so that was what I was thinking of for that usage. Jim's probably right to suggest you go with the mini JB.

The MXR Classic Overdrive is pretty cool. Especially the green one that has an internal dpt switch. $30 at GD.Captain Morgan wrote:Cool Rails? Are they supposed to sound like a PAF?

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I have a little '59 in the neck of one of my strats..Paired up with a full size JB in the bridge, its a versatile set-up..I would avoid the Demon..Really harsh sounding with ice picky high end..My cool rails neck pickup in another guitar is pretty thick sounding, with a darker vibe too it..I have a hot stack in the middle slot of that guitar, and it has recently become one of my favorite sounds..Think a cross between a tele, and an overwound strat pickup without the hum..Great for clean sounds, or stonesy overdrive..Captain Morgan wrote:There's also the Little '59 and Screamin' Demon too...you guys try those?lerxstcat wrote:Well, the single-coil JB would probably sound more like a PAF. The Hot Lead Stack?
Nevermind - I figured it out. Interesting pickup.
