Yeah it is a really, really nice guitar, don't know why I just couldn't get used to using it. I grew up playing one and thought "yeah that'll be cool to have in the rig". It is super cool but i just haven't clicked with it and there is always other gear on the horizon. On stage it got tons of cool comments though that's for sure.

I just picked this up yesterday - Pigtronix Class A Boost pedal - best boost pedal I ever used.

That's it - I've given up on Fender amps. Tried every last one, and the newer models are plagued with issues. Loved the clean, but have had issues with every last amp, especially a Custom Vibroking.

What do you recommend a guy that's been playing Fender for 10+ years?

wattage,

May I ask a possibly stupid question? Where in the pedal chain to you put a boost? Thanks man, also...what kind of neck is on the Iceman? is it a typical Ibanez wizard-ish or is it fat/chunky?

The problem with Fender is how they stack the tone circuit. I highly suggest Matchless for that sort of thing, or Vox, but tell us what you really want in an amp.

Jim Dunlop #6110's....yep, jumped off the deep-end and doing my own refret on the USA Predator.

These are pretty big frets, apparently they're what the late Gary Moore used on all his Fenders....railroad tracks, and they play pretty good....note to any Peavey Predator owners here: the string spacing at the nut on these is IDENTICAL to that of the Epi Les Pauls...I cut down a TUSQ LP nut a friend had to replace the crappy stocker(yeah, I'm cheap...LOL)...didn't have to cut new string-slots, the old slots lined up PERFECTLY.

Not a stupid question. YMMV but the beginning or end of the chain from my experience. Depends on how your other pedals deal with it. Some OD/Dist love the boost, some don't. I have a very small pedal set up and it goes at the end.

As for the Iceman it is a little more 60's LP style neck than a Wizard neck. Still has a more modern radius (14") than something from Gibson but it isn't a real thin shred stick type of neck.

I like Fender/Vox cleans and Vox/Marshall breakup. I've had a few issues with Vox amps as well - had I not had those issues, I might be considering another...

You may want to check a newer Vox or the Bogner Alchemist. The cleans are real solid and a small mod makes the gain like a TSL Marshall.

What was the problem with your Vox amp?
I bought a 100-watt Custom Classic head a few years ago and the head literally blew up. Fried completely. They couldn't figure out what happened at the shop. People I knew had issues with Vox amps around that time as well - some companies went as far as to test for "premature death" before shipping Vox amps at that time.

I don't know if Vox has improved since 2007, but I'm sort of weary, especially since I'll likely buy online.

Picked up a black Epi Wilshire Pro, little thing freaking rocks like mad.

Also made a deal to score a '77 TV Special, needs a fret job and the bridge pickup re-wound or replaced but it still was "right". It has a nice chime to it, great neck, single piece body and single piece neck. The thing just resonanted from tip to tail like it was alive, I love that. A little heavy for a Special but more than worth it for all the pluses.

I can't imagine that doing that to a guitar wouldn't negatively affect the tone of it. Especially a hollow-bodied guitar.
