I did the All Seeing Eye?Ultra mods to my DS-1 several months back(info is available over the 'net, picked up the components on Ebay).....damn, what a difference it makes!
Takes what's kinda hard and cold, gives it more crunch/definition but adds warmth IMO...and the tight/loose feature of the switch adds versatility.

I'm not a huge fan of a stock DS-1, but the MXR Custom Badass '78 Distortion is modeled after a lot of the similar mods done to the DS-1.PAF Pro wrote:I did the All Seeing Eye?Ultra mods to my DS-1 several months back(info is available over the 'net, picked up the components on Ebay).....damn, what a difference it makes!

For what it's worth, you have to dial it in right, but it works and it has more warmth and amp-like distortion.
To be honest, the Custom Badass Overdrive (somewhere between a Timmy, a Tubescreamer, and the Green Rhino) is SUPER amplike. I couldn't get over it. There's a 100hz dial on the pedal that really gives the pedal a "Marshall in the room" sound. Insane.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Pulled the trigger on one of byo.com's LP Custom kits.
Basically buying it for the body&neck, the stock electronics will be the first thing to hit the trash...still have that ebony board, may yank the rosewood in favor of it. Weighed out the pros/cons of doing one up from scratch vs. a kit...couldn't argue with the economics.
Gonna have to look around for the split-diamond headstock M.O.P., but some kind of personalized name to go across the headstock where the Gibson logo normally goes.
HEY MODS....I think this thread has MORE than earned "sticky" status, help us out here?

6L6 TUBES? At 20 watts wouldn't it be just one? Or are they 6V6 instead? Also, how many 12AX7s in the preamp, and how much is shipping? Any website or contact info?ElToro wrote:

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I figure they might, especially over computer speakers. I am interested in a specs page, saying what tube complement, dimensional size and weight, and how much shipping is for each model. I want to know if the drive channel has more tube gain stages or if it uses clipping diodes. I'm looking for a good reason to spend twice as much as I did for my JCA20H head which I can slam with my SD-1. The effects loop is nice but not worth $250 if you can dig my POV.ElToro wrote:Clips are coming soon, but they sound the same...

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
On the FistPump, the loop has a crazy gain option too...
I have a 20w AD90 and his original Krank Rev 20w combo... both awesome.
Basically, the Dirthead is an AIC vibe, the AD90 is John Sykes and the Fistpump goes to EVH and beyond, almost DimeBag, but not quite that over the top.

Not as impressive as his Gibson model ... needs the lightning bolts instead of the dots.. I get that they can't use the makeup likeness without permission from KISS Corp... but it just looks like a typical Les Paul with 3 humbuckers.. nothing really stands out. Actually most of the time that's pretty much how many GIbson/Epiphone signature models are.Tenacious_Dio wrote:New Epiphone Ace Frehley "Budokan" Les Paul:
Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Those are blocks, not dots, and the new Gibson Ace model has block inlays too. I thought the lightning bolts looked gay as fuck anyway. You couldn't give me one of those, well I''d sell it immediately anyway (the old lightning bolt ones).T-Jay wrote:Not as impressive as his Gibson model ... needs the lightning bolts instead of the dots.. Those are the newer versions. I don't know what "INFINIUM" is supposed to mean, but I played a 333XL combo in a Music Go Round store once. It sounded pretty damn good, plenty of gain and the clean was nice as well. It's a copy of a Peavey JSX or XXX, doesn't sound exactly like those amps but sounds good.joey64 wrote:anybody here own or play one of these Bugera amps?

The pots feel a little flimsy and these amps have only been around for about 5 years now. Earlier models had a bad rep for reliability; I didn't see a lot of them and never owned one to push it into failing. Word was that the issues were solved and I have a friend at the Jackson guitar forum who has sworn by his for a few years now. They are surely way cheaper than the competition, or the amps they copy maybe I should say.
People were down on the idea of Chinese-made amps, but I like my little Jet City JCA20H head. Then again, Michael Soldano put his name behind these amps and it does have a little more solid feel as compared to the Bugeras. The Jet City amps are more classic rock amps too, while the Bugeras run the gamut.
Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
thank you, I looked at the Jet City web page, they have a nice 1x12 combo as well, 2 channel but that's enough, & the same dealer over here as the Bugera so I can play both side by side, I have a head/cab already, looking for a smaller combo

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I have a 112 closed-back Fender cab for my JCA20H. Easier to carry them separately for an old guy who's had a stroke, and the sealed back cab gives a punchier response. The head is single channel, but it cleans up pretty well when you roll back the volume - EL84s are cool that way. My SD-1 gives me another "channel" as well.joey64 wrote:thank you, I looked at the Jet City web page, they have a nice 1x12 combo as well, 2 channel but that's enough, & the same dealer over here as the Bugera so I can play both side by side, I have a head/cab already, looking for a smaller combo
El Toro, when he says "over here" I gather he is overseas from the U.S. If Stiff has distribution there, or can ship overseas for reasonable prices, that would be cool. But many people want to play through the amp first, and that requires a dealer that carries them. I tried my Jet City on faith because zzounds gave me 45 days to send it back if I didn't like it, based on some good reviews from guys on a guitar forum who I trusted. Which is somewhat the same as your recommendation giving weight to the Stiff Amps, you know?

STiFF Amps is in Chandler, Arizona. Just ask him if he has a return policy. There are sound clips from the 20w amps online now.
BTW, my son wants to sell his Jackson DK27 Baritone. Anyone have a clue about it's value?

It says $504, not $469. Says more for non-USA so that may include shipping, or may include the different transformer. He doesn't say so it's hard to tell. I did email him with all my questions.ElToro wrote:I still say go to http://www.stiffamps.com and listen to the clips.
As for that baritone Jackson, I would do a search for completed auctions on eBay to get the best idea. I really couldn't guess since it's not that common a model.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I'm not overseas, but I think someone else on the thread was. I just noticed that there were different prices for USA and overseas, but it doesn't specify whether that is because of shipping or because they are wired for different voltages.ElToro wrote:Ah, didn't realize you were overseas. It says $504 for the 20-watt. I asked about that in the email but haven't heard back yet. I'm not really in a hurry as I'd have to sell something to get one anyway. Just trying to get some info from him. They are tiny things, shipping shouldn't be too much.
Sorry about the Ebay results, or lack of. Those guitars aren't that common. You could put it on Ebay on a 30-day BIN or Best Offer, maybe a couple hundred less than you paid, and see what happens. You will get lowballers so don't jump on the first offer, but then again if someone wants one and they don't come up that often they may jump on it, so that rarity could be to your advantage. The 30-day listing is actually cheaper, you do pay 1/4 of a percent higher Final Value, but it's up there for awhile so if someone didn't look this week, they may next week. I got $750 for my Model 6 a few years ago, at a time they were averaging $500, by listing it that way. A guy actually bought it very quickly for my full asking price because it matched his Model 5 in the same color. I guess I could have gone with a 7-day auction but I couldn't have known that at the time.
