But they’d gotta a little weirder on the new music, held on to hard to a lot of legacy acts (the way classic rock radio overplays certain songs), and could no longer get people to buy ads just because they liked the DJs. I listened every day every time I was in my car up until about 2020 but the last few years I went back a lot to my old CDs and digital collection.

Radio is Gaga...there's no need for it anymore...only time I listen to it is when I fly back to California and rent a car and want to throw on KLOS/KROQ or that one San Diego rock station on just to check out some old tunes from back in the day... listening to commercials is hell and there's no longer any need to be subjected to commercials.

Re: RADIO ... Who actually listens to a local Radio Station on a regular basis in 2025?
Sometimes if say I'm driving one of my parents somewhere and I don't want to subject them to my playlist. Radio stations are so freaking repetitive and always have been. And the commercial breaks are like 10 minutes long.
Working in bars we have to play radio or jukebox because if you play your own shit people are going to be a pain in the ass about it. Then they want you to play their stuff and everyone has different tastes and like another commenter said they start bickering. Except this is a bar where alcohol is involved so things can get heated and you don't want that. I've seen a fight break out because my coworker played a CD a customer brought in and another customer started making fun of it. Once I tried playing my own stuff that I thought would fit in with the crowd and all I got were people complaining, trying to dictate what to play next, running to their cars to get their own CD's, and a drunk girl pouting because I wasn't playing Ska. Ska! I ended up turning the music off completely and turning up the TV. So, radio it is. No you can't play your own shit, there's the jukebox.

This. Funny thing is, I'm just about the opposite with tv. Went back to an antenna for networks and use a Roku for apps like Tubi, Kanopy and PBS and the amount of free shit is endless. Yeah, the primetime stuff on the networks sucks, but it cracks me up that people still pay for cable to get shit like the Superbowl and The Today Show. We mostly dwell in the subchannels like Comet and MeTVToons but I can generally find a movie I like at anytime on any number of apps like Pluto or Hoopla. But terrestial radio went to the dogs. I thought HD radio could save it but it seems like there was a conspiracy to kill that in the crib.

I listen to a sports radio station of a regular basis (670 the Score in Chicago). For our local rock station (Rock 95.5) I will listen to it regularly for a few weeks, then not listen at all for a few weeks. It is decent background music, but radio isn't what it used to be for rock music.

Sirius is format radio repackaged to give the illusion of "choice". Every channel plays the same 40 songs over and over, just like terrestrial radio.Velvis wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 9:36 pmThe bullshit is ads.REO Cokewagon wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 10:36 pm Me.

1) Sirius has gotten much better in recent times expanding their playlists.
2) With so many channels, genres and sub genres I always find something to listen to. And when you are listening to something other than your favorite channels, it's good to hear something while familiar but you aren't burned out on.
3) On Ozzy's Boneyard they play the Jim Florentine show where he plays all kinds of deep tracks and deep bands. Duff McKagan has a show as well were he plays something besides Crazy Train and Iron Man. I'd assume that is the case for other genres as well.
4) Terrestrial radio has what like 10-12 channels per market? Sirius probably has about 100 on most radios and shitload more on the app. Many are specifically "deep cuts" channels. ie Hair Nation Deep Cuts
Sirius offers a shitload of choice, particularly compared to terrestrial radio.

This. The key is setting your presets to go through several stations. Hell, that's half the fun. I'll go through the 40's stations all the way through to Liquid Metal and back. THe Elvis and FIrst Wave stations tend to be my go-to. Howard, when he's actually live.Velvis wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 12:48 pmBono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 8:02 amSirius is format radio repackaged to give the illusion of "choice". I caught the Elvis channel the other night and they were playing a live album from 1972 that has been recently released on a live box set.Tymaster wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 8:49 amThis. It blew me away how good he sounded and how great the songs were. Wish I was able to see him live.

If I'm going to get involved enough to really care about what music is being played, as with streaming or satellite, I'm just going to plug in my mp3 player. 12,000 songs on random play, all stuff I loaded myself. Basically a radio station that can't be topped.

Small world. I was coming home from Costco and that station was playing tracks from RIchmond. Phenomenal.Velvis wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 11:34 amI caught the Elvis channel the other night and they were playing a live album from 1972 that has been recently released on a live box set.Tymaster wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 8:49 amThis. Pretty much the same with me, other than the Jazz station I listen to on my less than ten minute drive to work. I still have four working Ipod Classics and a Bluetooth adapter for when I'm walking or out and about. When I'm at home, I plug it into my stereo. I don't do shuffle though, I still prefer the album experience.exitflagger wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 2:26 pm If I'm going to get involved enough to really care about what music is being played, as with streaming or satellite, I'm just going to plug in my mp3 player. 12,000 songs on random play, all stuff I loaded myself. They brought in a regional radio personality (re: they ponied up some money) and that guy has turned the station into an unlistenable pile of steaming dung. He has that "pro announcer" cheesebag delivery, constantly hawking products and events that pay dearly for his "smooth guy" voice, all in lieu of playing music more often than should be the case.
But then the music selection comes on and you wish he would just go back to talking.

Re: RADIO ... Who actually listens to a local Radio Station on a regular basis in 2025?
Rarely listen to radio. Plus I work from home , so not in the car much anymore.
My daily driver, an Acura RDX, has a 10 speaker DVD audio disc surround system from the 5 minutes labels were pushing DVD-A discs. I have a ton of them, so I travel with them.
My nice weather ride is a Challenger SRT. The radio never comes on in that. I relax and listen to the exhaust.
