Correct. They never recovered, the last two Martin albums are Dehumanizer level bad. I used to think Forbidden was their VH3, but the 2024 remix revealed that song wise it's their least bad album since Tyr, and also better than Eternal Idol if you exclude the all time classic The Shining. It just didn't sound like Sabbath in its original incarnation.

Also agree with Tommy that 7th Star is better. It's also more 80s than Sabbath sounding but there are memorable songs on there.

Ozzy didn't write songs. Dio did. That is a big issue.

Ozzy sang on the first six untouchable Sabbath records, and had a good run with his solo stuff in the 80's and 90's, sucked badly afterwards (except for "13", which was good)
Dio sang on three very good Rainbow records, three very good Sabbath records and also had an inconsistent degree of success with his solo stuff.

Blizzard = Holy Diver
Diary = Last in Line
Bark > Sacred Heart
Sin < Dream Evil
NRFTW > Wolves
NMT = Strange Highways
Ozzmosis = Angry Machines

From the on, Ozzy albums are a no-no and Dio managed to release some ok stuff.

Dunno... maybe Dio wins?

Edited to add... yeah, Dio was the better singer too.

Dio was a brilliant vocal technician, but for whatever reason, he never reached me like Ozzy did.

Dio reached my brain. Ozzy reached my heart.

Ozy made me aware that there were different lives available to me and I was not locked into whatever I was born into. He was a gleeful agent of chaos going :"HEY LOOK AT ME. I AM LIVING THIS FUCKING AMAZABALLS LIFE, AND I NEVER HAD ANY COLLEGE OR MEANS!" Which hit me right when I was questioning the worth of being the third generation of my family to go into the auto plants and live there until I was too old and grisly to work. I could GO CRAAAAZY and find my own way in the world, flinging myself in a void and landing where my talents would allow.

Dio...made ME want to look out, ride a TIGER and occasionally witness a rainbow.
