If nothing else, I’d say Angel was a fairly nice stepping stone for Gregg to at least achieve some minor success once Giuffria’s “Call to the Heart” managed to somehow crack the top 40 on the Hot 100 at the end of ‘84.Wiseacre wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 6:50 pmThey were played a LOT on KSHE which is the longest-running station in the World. No radio play.
Low/no chart action. Some 70s bands got to hang around for 4-5 albums without really selling anything. They were one of them. If Zappa didn't make fun of them they'd be even less (un)known than they are(n't).
They never broke big, but they definitely should have. They were about 10 years ahead of the "hair metal" movement and as good as any band. Great musicians, great image, great vocals and great songs. They have a strong cult following and have toured with different lineups over the years and I was lucky enough to see them recently with 3/5 of the 2nd original lineup.
They are great even if they were never HUGE. WAY better than the generic bands of the era like Starz.
They also had the greatest logo of all time.
Who would be completely forgotten about today without Eddie Trunk?

Yeah, and for reference I just checked: “Call to the Heart” actually managed to crack top fifteen, while comparatively from that period, “Turn Up the Radio” only went to #29! And yet “Turn Up the Radio” became the classic rock radio staple. The music industry is a strange funny little business sometimes.Bono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 10:33 amYeah he went from a C- band to a solid Cdmbrocker wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 9:31 amIf nothing else, I’d say Angel was a fairly nice stepping stone for Gregg to at least achieve some minor success once Giuffria’s “Call to the Heart” managed to somehow crack the top 40 on the Hot 100 at the end of ‘84.Wiseacre wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 6:50 pm

Yeah all I remember from Giuffria was seeing that video once or twice and them opening for DP on their comeback tour. Conversely, Turn Up The Radio was one of the biggest rock songs that summer. That song was like the softest #15 ever. They must've put blow in the single sleeves.dmbrocker wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 10:48 amYeah, and for reference I just checked: “Call to the Heart” actually managed to crack top fifteen, while comparatively from that period, “Turn Up the Radio” only went to #29! The Winery Dogs
That was always some massive ass kissing

Eddie Trunk is definitely type of person that waits 1 hour for Costco gas to save 3$

Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"

Trunk calls out Gene and Paul for their bullshit.
He's also on Sharon Osborne's shit list for the same thing, so that makes him pretty cool in my book.
And as for Angel . . . saw them in the movie Foxes because the girls in that movie thought it was seriously cool to be going to the Angel concert. Whatever.

I knew of EVERY band in this thread before Eddie Trunk. And I love UFO when at their best. Superb band that was eaten alive by substances and made it back to be really good at various times.
But if you are wondering if some of these names would have been less-known (if not for Eddie Trunk) by metal fans born 1980 and later, you'd probably be right.
