HAIR METAL ... Is the term offensive, is it irrelevant one way or the other, or does it put a black eye on the 80s?

The one that started it all. Spreading gossip and insults since 1998.

Like the dude a few before me said.

You say Hair Metal and people know you're talking about the Motleys, Whitesnakes, Ratts, Poisons, Cinderellas and Tuffs etc

It is what it is...

It's entirely possible to use the term "hair metal" or "hair band" and still like that kind of music. Or at least the best examples of it, which is the same with just about any other genre. The people who would much rather it be called "super heroic and sexually superior metal" or something else that tickles their nuts just the right way are unwittingly playing right into the hands of the more derisive cliches attached to it.

If one of the overriding advantages of this genre is that it's fun, positive, party hardy, un-sad, non-depressive, etc., then maybe whining and bitching about a fairly obvious identifier is not the best way to embody that.

Ya think? Plenty of guys out there that never rocked the skullet to the tune of sold out arenas.
