1/8" is way too flimsy. I would try sealing up the cab with something a little heavier, 1/2" perhaps. If you can get the cabinet sealed fairly well your lows should get a lot tighter.

Sleek, I'm not opposed to spending some $$$ for a GOOD speaker.

The Eminence Commonwealth is something I'm leaning towards....hefty sumbitch, and not cheap, but the clarity is there. Was just curious as to speaker reccomendations from others...I've heard some talk abut the EV's.

Just realized I'd typed 1/8" on the Baltic Birch....d'oh! It's 1/2".

Sorry man, I wasn't trying to give ya shit, lol.

...but try an EV. They make any amp or cab sound twice as large. Great dynamic range and superefficient.

Mind you, if you are locked into that Celestion midrange bump, it'll confuse you at first.

Alternately, try some Webers. They make a JBL and an EV soundalike (The Michigan and the California). I've had a few Webers, and have nothing but good things to say about them.

I'll look more into the EV's and Webers, I appreciate the suggestions....so many different choices and such out there, kinda hard to separate fact from hyperbole at times.

Here I am, trying to be "responsible" and not go buying shit unless it's really needed, like a speaker.

Then you go off and show us this shit.....aaaaagh!

SUPER cheap way for me to get that MX250 I always wanted but couldn't afford at the time(yeah, it's a knockoff...ask if that bothers me).

Snagged a 2003-ish Indiana Tele Custom in red, with a lacquer-finished neck, $60 from a skinny-pant wearing kid.

Alder body, maple neck/board...actually not a bad guitar for an import. Toss some CTS pots, a better-quality cap, and some "Gatton" compensated brass saddles, already fitted with straplocks...might gig with it here and there in addition to the LP's and Strat.

"Our guitar is replicated exactly to the original JEM777LNG, so you play what Steve Vai plays."

BUNK!!!!!
Another Chinese counterfeit. Not the same pickups, crappy knock off trem, and you couldn't even get the color close.
Wait...that's right. You didn't make these. You ordered them from Trade Tang.

Cheap guitar alert:

Has anybody played one of these Epiphone Genesis reissues? I was really pleasantly surprised. Downside: ugly as a bowl of burnt grits. Upside: plays and sounds pretty great, has coil splitters standard, great access to upper frets and the shop I was at had them for just over 300 bucks.

Would make a really good beginner's guitar if anybody is seeking such a thing.

I've played this thing. Not the most attractive thing out there, but seemed to be build solidly and the electronics weren't shabby either. The orange interior case was the best part of it though. As far as a beginner's guitar, not a bad pick, but I'd be considering an Epi Les Paul or SG before this one.

The one I played was FAR better than the SG and Les Paul copies IMO. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to buy one but it's easily the best 300 dollar guitar I've tried out in years.

It's about guitars and the gear-whores that we are.....LMAO...noone gives a shit aboutyour footwear.

Post it up!

As to the Epi Genesis...basically a Les Paul with a cutaway in the upper bout. I've played a couple...to me it's a decent guitar, fret accessability similar to an SG but the neck joint's a hell of a lot more stable(my main bitch about an SG).

These imports, such as Epiphone, Burny, Edwards(ESP), Schecter and the short-lived SVK have really stepped up the game in terms of quality, to name a few. materials, fit&finish are DAMNED good. NOT the same as the old Teiscos, Kays Corts, Series 10's and Harmonys a lot of us started out on.

The clown shoe reference is joking with Exitflagger, who made fun of my Razorback Explosion a few months ago. I don't think a lot of people here care for the guitars I like to play. Anyway, it's the B.C. Rich Draco Ghost in the pics.

My first good guitar was one of the originals of these I got in a pawn shop. I had never heard of the model until I got it.

That thing was awesome. I later rolled it into a trade for a Shecter strat (that was awesome) but that thing slayed.
Captain Morgan wrote:As far as a beginner's guitar, not a bad pick, but I'd be considering an Epi Les Paul or SG before this one.
My reule of thumb is that any Epi model that copies a Gibson (SG, LP) usually isn't as good as the "pure" Epi models. (Casinos, Wilshires, Genesis)

That being said, they seem to be getting better even at that (I have an epi V that is really good...mind you, I have reshaped the neck and stuck different pickups in it), while Gibson is getting WORSE.

Yah. I keep telling everybody that this is the golden age of cheap-assed guitars. You should add Squire to that list, as they seem to be making all the coolest stuff on the Fender side, and quality-wise are comparble.

...but a nigga gotta ask...WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH GIBSON?

I'm looking for a LP goldtop with P90s right now, so I went to GC. They have one of those '50's tribute ones there for about $800 with18 month 0% financing...so I'm like:"All right. Game on."

So, I'm playing this thing, and it plays good...sounds allright...but just, every possible detail on it is fucked up.

The inlays are a little misaligned. The fretboard slab is either cheap rosewood or baked maple, and gets really, really light towards the end of the fretboard and looks like ass. The neck seems to be some weird light colored wood stained to look like mahogany, which you can tell because up where the neck meets the body, on the side of the neck, under the fretboard, THEY MISSED IT WITH THE STAIN and there is this 2"long strip of yellow wood sticking out.

The Gold top itself is all drippy looking where it meets the dark stained sides (no binding)...like, it's not a nice, sharp border between the top and the sides, but this thing that looks like somebody took a paintbrush and painted the top gold.

One of the bridge stud counter-sink-things was under the gold paint and painted over, but with a nasty chip on it, the other was over the paint with all chrome showing.

...this is on a US made Gibson!

Now, yeah, I know you can say:"well, that's cheap for an American Gibby", but it was a really, really shitty job somebody did on this...it just amounted to an entire lack of giving a fuck about guitars. It was also normally $1199.

...which is 3 times what the Epi would have cost (If they had one), and the Epi would have been MUCH BETTER MADE.

Seriously, Gibson, what the fuck?

I've been back to trying to hunt down a decent Les Paul with zero fucking luck. It's like my life-long quest. I guess when I finally get one I'll drop dead the next day. It's either you find a good one and they want a goddamned arm and a leg for it or you find shitty newer ones for STILL way too much money and the more you fuck around with it the more flaws you find. And I fucking HATE that fret-binding shit. I don't know why but that just totally destroys the feel of the neck for me.

I might pull the trigger on a Burny Les Paul. I figure if I buy a few of the Jap lawsuit ones, someday I'll land one that doesn't ultimately bum me out. Like kissing a bunch of frogs to find your prince... um... princess.

Back when I was working for Tracii, Gibson was kicking us down these LP standards that were really good...they were the classic or whatever, the pickguards said "1960" on them.

They sounded good, played good and were stage-worthy pretty much out of the box...

Might be worth looking into.

Question: Has anybody tried buying a guitar from an overseas business online? I'm looking at this site, http://www.muziro.com and it looks pretty legit. Good prices and they have what I want. And they have a return policy.

Should I be wary of Japanese dealers? TIA.

Update on this: I'd say my answer is yes, I should probably avoid. Tried emailing 3 times and no answer. Nothing gives you the warm fuzzies about sending an assload of money halfway around the world like non-communication. Fuck it. Back to the drawing board. :|

Depending on how you feel about ebay you might want to look there. They always seem to have some Edwards and Burnys for sale on there, and your money is probably a lot safer if you buy through them. Ebay, even though it sucks in many ways, will usually go to bat for you if a seller is trying to screw you.

Yeah, I've already come to that realization. But the guitars I'm considering are typically about 300 dollars more expensive through ebay. Whatever, I'm just going to try to be patient and wait for a good deal.
