Praise? Praise?!?!

Fuck outta here with that shit, Brian Setzer. Come back when you have a piss-yellow Ironbird, like the guitar version of Johnny Rod.
Untill then, dont expect praise for your roundy-round relic with what was their version of a Floyd Rose back in nineteen-ought-eight.

I've actually been considering one of those top-mounted Floyd FRX thingies.

I had not heard of these, but now that I see it, I realize that this guy had one on his SG when I saw them play live recently.

I am oficially intrigued, this could go on my Gibson Flying V. What's the deets?

It’s like $250 and attaches to a TOM bridge. It should go on a V just fine. I don’t think I’d use it enough to justify having it. Not really my style. I don’t even use the Bigsby much anymore.

Well, I have high praise for good Gretsch hollow bodies, largely (besides Carl Perkins and George Harrison) because of watching/listening to Duane Eddy up close, playing a few songs with The Crickets at a gig I worked. I just found it on YouTube. I had never seen this until now, 30 years later, after I was there. I even spotted my blurry self in a shot or two. What a trip. Thanks, Mojo. You sorta led me to it. Here tis:

Edited to add:
Shit! I just realized he's playing a Guild. Oh well, he was known playing a Gretsch.
And here's the guys I worked for at the gig.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2wZG3vTIT0
The volume's pretty low so CRANK it UP.
They went on after Duane, followed by John Fogerty, who suddenly decided to open with Proud Mary, which they hadn't rehearsed.

Ha! Wrong gee'tar. Oops. Great clip though. Anyhow, pretty cool Gaz. Fun project for you and he'll love it either way. Scar it up a little and paint his initials on it or something. So even if it sound like shit at least it will look cool and be somewhat personal for him.

I have nice guitars already.

I’m doing it for a couple of reasons:

1-I’m bored as shit these days and it will give me something to do

2- the whole project is less than $100

3-everything is predrilled and prewired.
Pretty sure if I can rewire an ac system or range that I’ll be able to put this together.

4-The biggest reason is that it’s s fuckin cool thing to do.
It might make that kids whole year getting a surprise guitar in the mail.
Who knows, maybe he will go on to become the next CC DEVILLE

If it turns out good, I’ll build another one for myself

I was thinking of putting his name on the headstock.

Duane is awesome. He's a major example of what tone is. His stuff is easy to play, but the way he plays it is so clean and his touch is so perfect that it's hard to replicate. His tone is incredible. I use "Rebel Rouser" when testing clean sounds all the time.
And as you say, Duane is much better known for playing a Gretsch 6120 than a Guild. Is that a Starfire he's playing there? Weird, but still cool. He's got two Gretsch signature models, as far as I know. His pickup and bracing selections aren't very good for louder rock. That one I bought has smaller f-holes and a centerblock, making it much better suited for higher gain.

Also, Fogarty's got some major rockabilly chops. He loves that shit. Hell, a ton of CCR is pretty much rockabilly, anyway.

I think he pulled out Proud Mary because he had to follow Joe Ely's standing ovation for Not Fade Away. He had rehearsed Crickets songs, and at the time, didn't play Proud Mary at gigs, due to hard feelings about losing his publishing.

Well, the Crickets played along perfectly, without practice. I think pretty much ANY band should know how to play a standard like that.

Vintage instruments and amps burn in fatal Trump fire.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/08/nyre ... ector.html

Todd Brassner, who died in a fire at Trump Tower on Saturday, loved fast cars, electric guitars, expensive watches and making long, erudite pronouncements about art and art history. He was an art dealer with health problems and a 2015 bankruptcy that listed his apartment as the location of more than $3 million worth of artwork and other collectibles, including a 1975 portrait of Mr. Brassner painted by Andy Warhol.

Friends of Mr. Brassner said he had been trying to move since the election of President Trump in 2016, which brought increased security and activity to the building on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, but he could not sell his 50th-floor apartment, which he estimated to be worth $2.5 million in 2015.

Mr. Brassner, 67, lived alone amid a collection of about 100 vintage electric guitars, 40 guitar amplifiers dating to the 1930s, 150 ukuleles and artwork by Robert Indiana, Mati Klarwein, Jack Kerouac and others.

I'm sure, he's in the President's thoughts & prayers. Has he tweeted about it, yet?

Yes he has. He thanked the firefighters and bragged about how the building was well made, but no mention of loss of life. See, that might be tricky. The apartment didn't have fire sprinklers. The building got grandfathered in when NYC laws changed. Trump fought for not installing sprinklers.
Pardon me for the politics in the guitar thread, but here's something I posted in the Dump thread:

I’ve got an old high school friend whose 9 yr old son just started taking lessons on a beat up cheap acoustic
He posted a video of him (kinda) playing “Kashmir” a couple days ago.

I thought it would be cool to build it and ship it to the kid
It was refreshing to see a 9 yr old actually learning guitar and Zeppelin at that, in an era of horrible rap/pop/hip hop crap that’s being put out.

Any advice ahead of time?

I know tuners and pups with be shit, but it will be his 1 st electric, so tough shit.

I did order copper tape to insulate the inside with?

Is that necessary?

It plays really good surprisingly!

Action is nice and low.

Pickups sound like dogshit, but that was expected.

Since it is for a beginner, I left everything as is from factory

Thanks man.

The old curmudgeon in me came out when I went to ship it.

I had maybe $100 total in building the guitar.

I took it to UPS and about fell over when they told me it was $130 to ship it.

I was expecting like $35.

It was well worth it tho.

Very rewarding to see how excited he was.
