After Eat Em' and Smile, I thought he was tee'd up to go the Ozzy route, where that was the gig that all young hotshot guitar players wanted.

He tried with Becker but we all know what happened there, then the music scene changed and Dave lost the plot. He tried to be Dr. Blues Vegas but nobody bought it.

The strange thing is that Ozzy stayed the course and had his biggest album/tour cycle with No More Tears at the same time Roth's career crashed and burned. He just toned down his madman schtick and released ballad singles to MTV, same as Roth.

Yeah Ozzy survived a duff 1st album with Zakk... but he brought in ghostwriters for NMT. I think they knew he was in trouble and needed a hit album. AFA Dave, we all know what happened there, JB got sick and that album/tour went straight down the drain.

Barring the EEAS band reunion, I wonder if someone like Paul Gilbert would have ever been interested in playing the EVh role in a solo Dave band. Dave has enough clout to put together an all star band and sail off into the sunset on a high note. At least to help hide what he’s lacking. I’ve always been a fan and Have wanted good things for solo Dave. I just want him to get a victory…after watching him slice his nose open on Jimmy and then look/sound absolutely horrific on Ellen (to me those were the two highest profile VH gigs at the time) he needs a one final redemption win kind of like Zep in 08.

The Hollywood Bowl shows seemed like a good way for them to close things out. Little eerie that Roth was acting like it was the last time they were going to be on stage together, I wonder if they knew then that Eddie starting to have issues again. But understandably those weren't "National TV" high profile, like what you're referring to.

I think if Roth wanted to go the Satriani route and have an All Star band back him, he would have done it by now, seems like he's satisfied playing with pros that can play the parts that aren't necessarily names that the general public might know.

I'm interested to see who actually is playing with him at M3, if it's basically going to be the guys that backed him on the KISS Tour/Vegas shows, or if he's gotten a whole new group together.
